Maria Bello Boards Kevin Williamson’s ‘Waterfront’ at Netflix

As a long-time fan of Maria Bello, I’m thrilled to see her taking on yet another compelling role. Her versatility and ability to portray complex characters make her an exceptional choice for the matriarch in Netflix’s upcoming drama series, The Waterfront.

Netflix and Kevin Williamson‘s drama series The Waterfront is adding to its cast.

Actress Maria Bello, who was nominated for an Emmy for her role on the streaming platform’s “Beef,” will appear alongside Holt McCallany in the upcoming series. In this show, she takes on the role of the matriarch of a family that manages a struggling fishing business in North Carolina. Netflix unveiled this series during their upfront presentation to advertisers back in May.

As a gamer immersed in the world of storytelling, I’m excited to share that “The Waterfront” takes me back to the charming landscapes of North Carolina, a place that holds a special significance for me as it was the setting for my breakthrough series, despite its narrative being set in Massachusetts. This time around, we’re filming in Wilmington.

The storyline for “The Waterfront” goes like this: “Based on real-life occurrences, ‘The Waterfront’ delves into the troubled Buckley family as they desperately try to hold onto their deteriorating North Carolina fishing empire, leading them to resort to increasingly risky tactics just to stay afloat.”

Bell will portray Mae Buckley, the one who’s been jointly managing the family business with her son, following Harlan (McCallany)’s decision to step back. In a struggle to preserve the family, she resorts to dubious strategies to keep the fishery afloat.

Apart from playing Beef, Bello has frequently appeared on CBS’ NCIS in recent seasons. Her acting portfolio additionally features roles on Amazon Prime Video’s Goliath, as well as films such as The Water Man, A History of Violence, and The Cooler. She received Golden Globe nominations for her work in the latter two productions, and she was part of the ER cast that won a SAG Award in 1998.

Universal Television is currently working on a new series titled “The Waterfront”. This series is being written by Williamson, who will also serve as an executive producer along with his business partner from Outerbanks Entertainment, Ben Fast.
