Marisa Paredes, the revered Spanish actress who worked with Pedro Almodóvar on movies like “The Flower of My Secret”, “All About My Mother” and “The Skin I Live In”, has passed away at the age of 78.

On Tuesday, the Spanish Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences confirmed her passing. They honored her as one of Spain’s most renowned actors, noting that her acting career was characterized by portraying strong, complex, flawed, passionate, mysterious, yet profoundly human women.

Marisa Paredes was nominated for a Goya Award for her role as a woman reluctant to write romance novels in “The Flower of My Secret” (1995). Furthermore, she acted for Almodóvar as an actress in “All About My Mother” (1999), a party guest in “Talk to Her” (2002) and the servant and mother of Antonio Banderas’ character, a mad scientist, in “The Skin I Live In” (2011).

Born in Madrid on April 3, 1946, Penelope Cruz began her life close to the famous Teatro Español within the city. She made her film debut at the age of 14 and spent years performing on stage and television. A significant milestone came when she starred in Fernando Trueba’s first directorial project, the comedy “Ópera Prima” (1980).

She was nominated for her first Goya for Cara de acelga (1987).
