Mariska Hargitay And Ice-T Celebrated Starting Law And Order: SVU Season 26, And One Detail Immediately Made Me Laugh

As a dedicated fan who has witnessed the evolution of TV crime-fighting dynasties over the past three decades, I can confidently say that the return of Law & Order: SVU for Season 26 is nothing short of momentous. With Mariska Hargitay and Ice-T both inching closer to their respective milestones – Olivia Benson’s 30th year on the force and Fin Tutuola’s 25th season – it’s a testament to the enduring appeal of this groundbreaking series.

Despite fans having to endure a wait till fall for the 2024 TV season debuts, the cast of Law & Order: SVU are already busy preparing to unveil more appalling crimes on NBC prime-time. With NBC advertising Law & Order on Thursdays during the Olympics, I’m thrilled to witness the stars commemorating the commencement of a fresh season. Season 26 will bring Mariska Hargitay one year nearer to three decades as Olivia Benson and allow Ice-T to reach the 25-season milestone as Fin Tutuola. They shared a post in anticipation of resuming their roles this fall, and I couldn’t help but chuckle at one amusing detail.

To tell you the truth, when I saw that detail, it didn’t strike me as intended humor. Instead, my mind jumped straight to an SVU scenario – something that’s rarely found in other shows. Here’s the Instagram post from Mariska Hargitay that caught my imagination:

In a less immediate, humorous manner, I found it amusing that two long-term colleagues, with insufficient fingers combined, were unable to symbolize the start of the new season by holding up 26. To represent all seasons accurately, they would need another colleague to join them and lend their hands. Unfortunately, no current cast member has been part of SVU for more than two decades to contribute the required number of fingers.

As an enthusiastic admirer, I couldn’t help but share my excitement after Ice-T posted a behind-the-scenes video from the SVU set. The video showcased the overwhelming turnout of fans eagerly watching filming, with Mariska Hargitay and Aimé Donna Kelly making memorable appearances. Although Aimé isn’t confirmed as a series regular for Season 26 yet, it was still an incredible sight to witness! Be sure to catch a glimpse if you haven’t already:

There’s a touch of nostalgia in me as I observe the large crowd gathering for filming and Ice-T’s continued passion for SVU. In fact, he’s openly stated that he won’t depart from the series unless his character, Fin, meets an unfortunate end. As for Mariska Hargitay, she shared another stunning picture to celebrate the beginning of Season 26, embodying Benson with elegance.

Since the series will continue to focus on horrific sex crimes as usual, it seems appropriate to use the remaining break periods to appreciate the actors radiating joy. Reaching its 25th year, Special Victims Unit wasn’t exactly a jovial season for Benson earlier this year, given her struggle to save a girl named Maddie in an unusual serial narrative within the show. Meanwhile, Fin was absent during part of the season, let’s hope that won’t happen again when Season 26 starts.

Starting this fall, the world of “Law & Order” is going to have a new twist for me as a fan! The original series and “SVU” are set to return to their Thursday night spots on NBC in October, but “Organized Crime” has been swapped out at 10 p.m. ET with Mark-Paul Gosselaar’s “Found”. In the spring, it was announced that Christopher Meloni’s series would shift from NBC primetime to streaming exclusively on Peacock. As of now, I’m eagerly waiting to find out when Season 5 of “Law & Order: Organized Crime” will debut so there might be a chance for a crossover with “SVU”.

As a die-hard fan, I’m counting down the final weeks before my favorite shows, Law & Order and SVU, make their grand comeback on October 3. To satisfy my craving for justice served, I’ll be revisiting these gripping series, along with Organized Crime, by upgrading to a Peacock Premium subscription. For those with a Hulu subscription, don’t worry, SVU will also be available there!
