2014’s action-comedy film “Kingsman: The Secret Service” still feels remarkably original more than ten years since it hit screens, yet it skillfully honors the classic spy movies that preceded it.
As a dedicated fan, I’ve been eagerly anticipating the movie version of the iconic comic book, “Watchmen,” penned by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons, now streaming on SYFY. While it follows the initial volume of the graphic novel series, the adaptation isn’t a straight copy. A unique thread that catches my eye right from the start is the unexpected appearance of Mark Hamill in a role that offers an intriguing twist.

Mark Hamill’s appearance in the Kingsman comic book
At the beginning of volume 1 of Kingsman, readers are not yet familiar with the plot, but they are certain that it features the real Mark Hamill. This particular Mark Hamill is being kept captive within a secluded chalet situated high up in the Swiss Alps, specifically in Zermatt.
His captors briefly question him about using a pseudonym and criticize the Star Wars prequels. Later, a Kingsman Agent rescues Hamill and indiscriminately eliminates everyone nearby. The agent and Hamill then escape on a snowmobile, swiftly navigating through the forest as enemies pursue them closely.
In spite of their attempts to flee, they become trapped, caught between a hailstorm of bullets and a sheer cliff. However, the agent reassures Hamill there’s no need for concern because they would survive by leaping off the cliff, the parachute supposedly ensuring their safety. Regrettably, this wasn’t the case, and they fell to their demise. Later on, Hamill reappeared in the series when it was adapted for the big screen, but not as himself.
Mark Hamill’s appearance in Kingsman: The Secret Service
In the film, it’s not until later that I come across Hamill, but he certainly makes an appearance. Initially, we delve into a scene from 17 years ago, establishing the bond between Gary “Eggsy” Unwin (Taron Egerton) and Harry Hart (Colin Firth). It isn’t until after the first corpse hits the ground that we encounter Hamill.
In my gaming world, I find myself thrust into a new adventure where the story’s main adversary is introduced and a formidable challenge arises. Here, Mark Hamill steps onto the stage. The kidnapping plot remains, but the focus has shifted. Rather than controlling Hamill himself, I embody Professor James Arnold, a brilliant researcher who’s now under the watchful eye of the movie’s sinister antagonist.
In a flash, a mysterious figure shows up just as Professor Arnold was about to savor the ’62 Dalmore (note that). This individual swiftly eliminates everyone present, sparing only Professor Arnold. Then, in an unexpected twist, this person is fatally cut in two by a woman with blades for legs. It’s quite thrilling! This event marks the arrival of Richmond Valentine, portrayed by Samuel L. Jackson. He’s a supervillain with an environmental agenda, planning to tackle issues like global warming, pollution, and extinction of species by drastically reducing the human population.
Instead of falling off a cliff, this Mark Hamill manages to survive for now and faces the next day’s demise.
