The director who revitalized the James Bond franchise on two separate occasions – first with Pierce Brosnan’s debut in 1995’s “GoldenEye” and again in Daniel Craig’s premiere film, “Casino Royale” in 2006 – has shared his thoughts about when the next phase of Bond might start. In a recent interview with Men’s Journal, Campbell expressed his views on what lies ahead for the iconic character…while also expressing doubts as to whether there will be another reboot given the legal dispute between Amazon and producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson.
Is there a possibility we might see another Bond film? That seems to be the topic at hand. Interestingly, there’s a legal matter ongoing right now. You may recall that between my performance in GoldenEye and that film, there was a six-year gap. Now, due to complications with Amazon, they find themselves in a similar predicament. The future is uncertain; only time will tell. Furthermore, the decision on the director will be made by Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson, who are exceptional producers.
Indicating that it’s been six years since a new James Bond was introduced after Timothy Dalton’s “License to Kill” (it’s now four years since Daniel Craig bid farewell to the role in 2021’s “No Time to Die”), Campbell suggests we might have to wait a bit longer before catching 007 on the big screen again.
“I think it’ll be two years away, three years away.”
Could ‘Cleaner’ Star Taz Skylar Play 007? Martin Campbell Responds
In a return to action films, Martin Campbell presents “Cleaner” this month, featuring Daisy Ridley from “Star Wars” as a skilled former soldier. After an un honorable discharge and taking up work as a cleaner, she is thrust back into action amidst a hostage crisis. Additionally, the film stars Taz Skylar, a British-Spanish actor whom Campbell believes could make a good fit for James Bond in the future.
Taz seems to be quite charming, doesn’t he? It was a pleasure working with him too. However, despite his youthful appearance, it’s necessary to find someone who can portray a similar age since he needs to appear in five films.
At present, it’s unclear who will step into the role of James Bond when the movie reboot occurs (given Campbell’s doubts, it seems like a foregone conclusion), and we’re completely in the dark about how the reboot might unfold. Rumors suggest that difficulties are arising behind the scenes, with Barbara Broccoli expressing disagreement over Amazon’s plans to extend the franchise into streaming spin-offs. However, Campbell doesn’t believe this is a possibility…
Negative, I’m certain Barbara will firmly stand by her convictions and claim this is more of a theatrical production rather than something for immediate streaming. It’s tradition with a Bond movie; it’s always an event to look forward to.
Cleaner is scheduled to be released in theaters on 21 February 2025.
