Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio’s Elusive ‘The Devil in the White City’ Lands at 20th Century Studios

The decades-long collaboration between Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio on “The Devil in the White City” has found its home at 20th Century Studios, bringing the long-awaited movie one step closer to reality.

As a gaming enthusiast diving into the latest scoops, I’ve learned that Scorsese and DiCaprio are joining forces with Stacey Sher, Rick Yorn, and Jennifer Davisson for an upcoming production project. The film will be overseen by David Greenbaum (20th Century and Disney Live Action president), Steve Asbell (20th Century president), and Sarah Shepard (SVP of Production) at the studio. Word on the street is that DiCaprio is in negotiations to reprise his role for this exciting venture.

Titled “The White City Devil,” this narrative is inspired by Erik Larson’s 2003 historical non-fiction book and unfolds the tale of H. H. Holmes, often referred to as America’s first serial killer. He enticed his victims into his lethal “Murder Castle” during the 1893 World’s Fair in Chicago.

Before Leo DiCaprio and his production company Appian Way Productions obtained the film rights, it was Tom Cruise and Paula Wagner who initially started working on this project. However, the option expired in 2004, and Paramount regained the rights in 2007 to collaborate with producers Michael Shamberg and Stacey Sher. In 2010, DiCaprio secured the rights for himself to play the serial killer, and Martin Scorsese joined the project as its director in 2015.

2022 saw the announcement that a project was underway at Hulu, featuring Keanu Reeves as the main character. However, both Reeves and Director Todd Field left the series later that year. In March 2023, Hulu officially confirmed the cancellation of the show.

Stay tuned for more details.
