As a fan of Marvel comics, I must say that the romantic entanglements of the Hulk are quite intriguing! One cannot help but marvel at the diversity of characters he has been romantically involved with, from powerful monarchs to tiny beings from micro-worlds.
It’s no secret that the romantic life of the Incredible Hulk, our beloved green colossus, is both captivating and puzzling. After all, the human side of him, Dr. Robert Bruce Banner, is known for his intense emotions, a trait shared by many Marvel characters (like Tony Stark, Peter Parker, and his cousin Jennifer Walters). However, his relationships are complicated due to his transformation.
In certain instances, be it due to intense emotional or physical pressure, or simply rage (varying among different portrayals), Bruce Banner often finds himself on the brink of transforming into a monstrous form. This transformation makes him unable to control his actions and, depending on the version, poses a risk for those around him, as they might unintentionally provoke an unwanted “Hulk outburst.
Despite boasting a substantial and diverse roster of romantic interests, spanning journalists from various species to several nobles from different dimensions, please note that the content of this article might not be suitable for everyone due to its exploration of fictional relationships. We strive to maintain a level of maturity in our writing as we value the significance of such connections within our fictional world.
Betty Ross
It is widely recognized that Betty Ross, the daughter of General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, holds a significant place as Bruce Banner/Hulk’s romantic partner, thanks to her appearances in various live-action adaptations such as Ang Lee’s “Hulk,” where Jennifer Connelly plays Betty, and “The Incredible Hulk,” starring Liv Tyler. In most stories, she meets and falls in love with Bruce while he is working for her father at the gamma lab.
In simpler terms, the story starts after a significant lab incident that gives him his alternate personality. Generally speaking (ignoring the time when she was the Red She-Hulk), it appears that the Hulk doesn’t participate in their intimate relationship, though they do have one while they are together. However, it’s important to note that in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the two seem unable to engage physically without the risk of a transformation or outburst.
In the comics, Betty briefly becomes pregnant with a child fathered by the character, but tragically loses the baby when she is tormented by the villain Nightmare. Writer Peter David later disclosed that Marvel editors enforced this miscarriage as a means to maintain the youthful image of the couple; a decision that almost led David to resign from the title permanently. The narrative involving Betty’s pregnancy might be adapted for screenplay in the future, given that “Captain America: Brave New World” is introducing Tyler’s character Betty Ross back into the MCU.
Dawn Michaels
Compared to Betty Ross, there isn’t much to discuss about Dawn Michaels, the Daily Bugle reporter who uncovers a local conspiracy and unfortunately meets her end while involving Bruce Banner. It’s important to note that her death wasn’t due to any romantic entanglement with him. This storyline unfolds in an issue of the 1970s comic series “Hulk!”, where Dawn serves as a secondary character.
At daybreak, Dawn saves Bruce who seems lost in the wilderness, having no recollection due to a blackout caused by the Hulk. While they aren’t spending time pleasantly (with Bruce maintaining his human form), she assigns him tasks at a nearby mine – a place she’s covertly examining for dishonesty. Remarkably, this action puts them in peril when the miners find out her secret agenda, and in revenge, they try to harm Bruce after killing her. Fortunately, the Hulk comes to his rescue, pulling him from the mine before it collapses in retaliation.
Bereet
If the name Bereet seems recognizable to you, it could be due to director James Gunn introducing this less prominent character in his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut, “Guardians of the Galaxy.” Actress Melia Kreiling, known for her role as Sofia on “Emily in Paris,” portrayed Bereet. In the movie, she’s found awakening on Peter Quill/Star-Lord’s (Chris Pratt) spaceship, presumably following a brief romantic encounter. However, James Gunn had these characters interact long before, as Bereet was one of the Hulk’s numerous love interests in the comic books.
When we mention the Hulk, we’re referring to him directly. Initially, upon her arrival on Earth from her home planet Krylor, she finds him intriguing as a film subject – a warrior she intends to explore through documentaries. The project that ensued (manipulated by tricking the Hulk into believing an alien invasion was imminent) served as a catalyst for her budding career as a techno-artist, significantly boosting its success. Not long after, she finds herself back on Earth to continue their artistic partnership.
Despite surviving the confrontation and managing to produce a good movie from the experience, she ultimately decides to pursue a career in Hollywood filmmaking rather than continuing her involvement with her extraordinary inspiration. Since her home planet was later obliterated in a Marvel incident, she would likely have been safe on Earth at that moment.
Caiera the Old Strong
Among all the significant connections the Hulk has, none are as impactful as his bond with Caiera the Powerful, also known as the Shadow Queen of Sakaar. In a scenario reminiscent of “Thor: Ragnarok” in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Hulk encounters this planet unintentionally in the comics. However, it’s not his own mishap that lands him there; instead, it’s the manipulative actions of a secretive superhero organization called the Illuminati that brings about his predicament.
Upon an unscheduled visit, the Hulk finds himself compelled to work and battle for amusement under the malevolent rule of the Red King. Instead of meeting his coworker in the arena, he gains admiration and affection from Caiera, who like him, is serving the Red King. Pregnant with the Hulk’s baby, they both perish along with their child in an explosion that demolishes Sakaar. As of now, if you’re keeping track, there are only two of the Hulk’s past partners without a home planet remaining alive.
Eventually, Caiera’s selfless act is unveiled – she gave up her life to shield their twin boys, Hiro-Kala and Skaar. Notably, the latter character made his debut in the final episode of “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.” This suggests that this romantic entanglement involving the Hulk may soon be incorporated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, providing insight into how relationships like these can endure.
The Tibetan Hulk harem
In another scenario where the Hulk becomes embroiled in a romantic predicament following a plot by his fellow Avengers against him, questions arise about the typical activities of a human being when associated with the Hulk. Within the Ultimate Comics universe, the Avengers attempt to bring charges against both Banner and the Hulk for the deaths of hundreds of New Yorkers during a rampage prompted by Betty Ross leaving him for, it’s confirmed, Freddie Prinze Jr. from this universe.
In this rephrased version:
Each one is found in different stages of being unclothed, and the imagery strongly suggests he has been indulging in a personal orgy of worldly pleasures as a means to move past Betty. Whether this approach resonates emotionally remains debatable, but it appears to be having a tangible impact on everyone involved physically. The specifics are left for the reader to fill in. It’s noteworthy that Maestro, Hulk’s elderly counterpart, has a reputation for being fond of large gatherings of human women.
Ultimate She-Hulk
Discussing Betty Ross in her role within the Ultimate Universe, she’s not entirely supportive of Nick Fury’s decision to sentence her ex-boyfriend to death via X-termination. Meanwhile, Wolverine is pursuing him in Tibet. In a clandestine move, Betty takes a vial of an experimental serum from SHIELD scientist Jennifer Walters and transforms herself into the Ultimate She-Hulk.
Shortly after Wolverine and the Hulk have ended their initial fight, a woman suddenly appears in the mountains. (Unfortunately for Wolverine, he had lost consciousness, having been severely injured during the battle, with his body separated from his legs).
Later on, he confides in Fury that he wasn’t sure if they were engaged in a physical altercation or something else intimate. The absence of clothing by the end of their encounter strongly suggests the latter, as they reconnect in Casablanca shortly after, implying they consummated their relationship. So there you have it, Freddie!
Nadia Dornova
Among the numerous Marvel Cinematic Universe characters who returned unexpectedly post “Avengers: Endgame,” Emil Blonsky, also known as The Abomination (portrayed by Tim Roth in “The Incredible Hulk” and “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law”), is arguably the Hulk’s most recognized adversary among common viewers. However, what many fans might not realize is that in the comics, Blonsky was previously married to a hardworking Russian woman named Nadia Dornova.
In their troubled marriage, Emil frequently mistreats and harms his wife. Yet, she remains loyal to him, collaborating with Home Base to catch Bruce, who is being targeted at the moment. However, as the operation progresses and she gets to know Bruce better, she starts to have romantic feelings for him. Bruce reciprocates these feelings, even though he’s a recent widower, leading them to embark on a brief yet complex and emotionally challenging relationship.

Thundra
Among the Marvel female superheroes capable of overpowering She-Hulk, one notable contender has often posed a formidable challenge to the Hulk – Thundra, who is not only known for her strength but also her enigmatic charm. Originating from an alternate Earth where women dominate due to the dominance of a force called the Femizons, she has earned a reputation as one of the Hulk’s most challenging adversaries.
Similar to numerous others, she is captivated by the Hulk and develops feelings towards him. However, their relationship doesn’t immediately lead to a child – that arises from a future scientific endeavor involving the Hulk’s DNA. The result is Lyra, an extraordinarily powerful individual who ventures back in time to guide her mother, eventually assuming the role of She-Hulk.
Power Princess
In line with the pattern of Hulk associating with warrior-princesses from different realities that resemble Amazonian women, he had a fleeting romantic encounter with Zarda, who is the princess of Utopia Island and is also known as Power Princess in the Squadron Supreme. The Squadron Supreme is a Marvel superhero group that draws significant influence from DC’s Justice League. Notably, Zarda serves as their counterpart to Wonder Woman, and fans of comic book movies have consistently urged for Henry Cavill to portray the Squadron’s Superman-counterpart, Hyperion.
Unlike Princess Diana from Themyscira, who is typically portrayed as a heroine, Zarda is frequently depicted as a complex character, often clashing with prominent Marvel superheroes, particularly when she and her group cross over into the Ultimate Marvel Universe. There, she interacts with the Hulk and chooses to be intimate with him following a confrontation. Tragically, she perishes during the “Ultimatum” incident, along with the Squadron and, at that point, nearly all of that Earth’s inhabitants – making her one of at least three former lovers of the Hulk who have experienced an extinction-level catastrophe.
She-Hulk
As someone who has always been a fan of comic books and superheroes, I must say that the idea of Hulk’s incestuous relationship with his cousin is truly disturbing and not something I want to dwell on. It goes against everything that makes these characters relatable and enjoyable for millions of fans around the world. If you’re sensitive to such topics or simply prefer not to read about it, I strongly recommend scrolling to the next slide. Let’s keep our focus on the exciting adventures and heroic deeds of our favorite green giant.
In the universe of “Old Man Logan,” the forces of evil emerge victorious in the struggle between good and wickedness. They then divide the world among themselves. Unfortunately, Abomination doesn’t get to savor his territory for long, as he is eventually ousted and killed by an increasingly brutal and cruel Hulk. As ruler of this domain, Hulk later starts producing offspring with his cousin, Jennifer Walters. Known as the “Hulk Gang,” they are a group of ruthless landlords who mistreat their tenants for their own sadistic amusement.
Marlo Chandler
At some stage in his existence, the Hulk assumes the identity of Joe Fixit, a merciless casino enforcer who often associates with unsavory characters similar to Wolverine’s persona, Patch. During his line of work, he encounters Marlo Chandler, a model, athlete, and aerobics instructor, who seems excessively smitten with the perilous “Mr. Fixit.” However, their romantic involvement persists until she finds his violence intolerable and ends the relationship.
Surprisingly, she ends up in a lasting, ultimate romance with Rick Jones, who is known as the long-term companion and closest friend of Bruce Banner. For a short while, she even lived with Betty Ross following her separation from Bruce, who remained transformed into the Hulk permanently.
Jarella
It’s quite intriguing, almost as if supporting the age-old belief that opposites attract. Remarkably, even the towering Hulk seems to have found one of his most suitable matches among Marvel’s smallest inhabitants. Jarella, a regal figure from the Microverse’s realm K’ai, shares feelings for the Hulk. If this rings a bell, it might be because her niece Jentorra made quite an impact in “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania”.
In K’ai, the duo find themselves bonded due to the Hulk’s heroic actions, which garnered them unexpected acceptance by the community, partially because of his green complexion. Their relationship, marked by its ups and downs, sees involvement from both Bruce Banner and the Hulk, until her heartbreaking demise in “The Incredible Hulk” Vol. 2 #205. In this issue, she sacrifices herself to save a child. Although writer Len Wein originally did not plan for her death to be permanent, he departed the series before he could bring her back for future tales.
Umar the Unrelenting
In the Marvel Universe, only a handful of characters find Bruce Banner more appealing as a romantic partner compared to the Hulk. The majority either meet the Hulk when Bruce Banner is not present or is merged with his other personality. Not many characters have openly chosen the Hulk over Bruce Banner; Umar the Unyielding is one of the rare exceptions.
Umar is a controversial character often associated with the Hulk’s romantic history. Whenever discussions about him arise, she becomes the unusual topic of conversation due to an unusual comic book storyline where she attempts to control the Hulk through seductive tactics. This villain originates from the Dark Dimension and at one point aims to lure the Hulk towards darkness. However, her plan backfires as Bruce Banner, the Hulk’s alter ego, struggles with a unique form of anxiety — in this context, he’s too calm to transform into Umar’s desired partner.
Over time, pushing Umar to the brink of his anger tolerance level leads to the activation of their destructive sexual relationship. However, no matter how powerful she is, he can’t stay away from Betty for long, and in no time, Bruce and the Hulk are back with their one true love.
