Enthusiasts of the Marvel Cinematic Universe received two exciting pieces of news this morning. The initial announcement was that tickets for the upcoming superhero blockbuster are now available for purchase. The second piece of news was the unveiling of a fresh trailer, which offers a first glimpse at a character anticipated to play a significant role in the MCU’s future development.
In the recently released teaser for the movie “First Steps“, we don’t see a lot of fresh material, but what we do get is a sneak peek at Franklin Richards, the young child of Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal) and Susan Storm (Vanessa Kirby). The scene shows the family snuggled together in bed. This marks the first live-action depiction of Franklin Richards, who was brought to life by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby and debuted in the “Fantastic Four Annual” #6 back in 1968. Previously, Franklin only made brief, silent appearances in animated versions of the story. You can watch the new trailer for “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” below.
Baby Franklin’s extended family consists of his maternal uncle Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn), his adoptive uncle Ben Grimm (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), along with Reed and Susan who, together with them, form Marvel’s First Family, also known as the Fantastic Four. The upcoming movie “First Steps” will be the first time in a decade that fans can watch this iconic superhero team on the big screen together since their last appearance in the 2005 film “Fantastic Four”, its 2007 sequel “The Rise of the Silver Surfer”, and the 2015 reboot, which was also called “Fantastic Four”.
First Steps Will Do Justice to Marvel’s First Family
The upcoming film “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” carries significant weight, as it is anticipated to serve as a direct prelude to the upcoming blockbuster “Avengers: Doomsday”. Outside of its impact on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Fantastic Four franchise has not been particularly successful in terms of critical acclaim or commercial success. Consequently, “First Steps” can be seen as something of a daring move for Marvel Studios, given that their recent cinematic releases have fallen short of matching the box office feats achieved by the Infinity Saga films.
In a recent interview, Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, mentioned that there aren’t four characters more crucial for Marvel’s history than the main superhero team. He expressed that when Disney acquired Fox, it was like an unexpected dream come true and perfectly timed to kick off a new phase. For him, they are Marvel’s founding family, and he wanted to ensure their representation was respectful and fitting.
It appears there have been mixed feelings about [the unnamed subject], according to someone who was present. They described it as “neither great nor fantastic,” using words like ‘mid,’ ‘meh,’ and ‘not terrible, but not excellent either.’ Even more troubling is their claim that the film lacked strong character development and had subpar CGI. However, they assured us that the CGI issues will be improved over the next month.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps hits theaters on July 25, as the first movie in Phase 6 of the MCU.
