Marvel Hints at Epic Return of Netflix’s Defenders After Daredevil: Born Again!

Despite the fact that “Daredevil: Born Again” hasn’t debuted on Disney+ yet, fans are eagerly anticipating the reappearance of other characters from Netflix’s Defenders superhero team. Although there have been hints about other heroes coming back from the original series, “Born Again” has primarily centered around Daredevil-related characters. However, as per Marvel themselves, the rest of the Defenders could potentially reenter the MCU following the release of the next month’s “Daredevil” sequel series on streaming.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, veteran Marvel executive Brad Winderbaum hinted that other Defenders team members might join Daredevil in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Although he didn’t specify exactly who or when they might return, he mentioned that they are considering all possible factors. As filming for “Daredevil: Born Again” Season 2 starts soon before its official release, Marvel is exploring options to reintroduce characters such as Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Danny Rand (Iron Fist) in the upcoming series.

I’m rather tight-lipped about the details, but let me tell you, there’s an immense thrill in being part of this sandbox. Unlike a comic book, where limitless creativity is possible due to the power of illustration, we’re working with actors, time constraints, and the grandeur of production to establish a cinematic universe, even on television. Yet, despite these challenges, I can assure you that it’s a creatively exceptional endeavor that we are passionately pursuing.

Currently, our main goal is to expand “Daredevil: Born Again” into a multi-season project. The second season will start filming just five days after its premiere on Disney+ this March, with two episodes set to air in March as well. As showrunner of “Born Again“, Dario Scardapane hinted that this season will serve as an extension of the first, allowing us to explore larger and more diverse territories. Charlie Cox, who returns to his Matt Murdock role after three appearances in the MCU since “Daredevil” Season 4, is eager to continue playing this character for many years to come, stating that he would find it exciting if the character’s journey were to carry on further.

Who Could Return From Netflix’s ‘Defenders’ Series

2017 saw the debut of Marvel’s Defenders on Netflix, marking the first time the street-level superhero squad appeared in live action. The series brought together characters who had previously starred in their own shows, such as Krysten Ritter playing Jessica Jones, Mike Colter portraying Luke Cage, and Finn Jones as Iron Fist. It’s anticipated that some or all of these actors may reprise their roles within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Actress Krysten Ritter, among others, has expressed her desire to return as her character. However, no official confirmation has been made on this matter, although fans are hopeful she might show up in Daredevil: Born Again.

Due to the fact that “Daredevil: Born Again” serves as a continuation of the Netflix series, there’s a strong possibility that characters like Elektra (played by Elodie Yung) and the Hand could reappear. According to executive producer Sana Amanat, their return is something they’ve been considering, stating, “We definitely have it at the back of our minds. At some point, we’ll try to work out more details with that.” If “Born Again” spans beyond Season 2, it seems unlikely that their comeback isn’t planned, if not already decided upon.
