Marvel Icon Explains How His Fang-tastic Deadpool & Wolverine Cameo Happened

As a long-time comic book fan and avid gamer, I couldn’t believe my eyes when I watched Deadpool & Wolverine and saw Wesley Snipes reprising his iconic role as Blade. The surprise cameo was a delightful homage to the rich history of Marvel’s X-Men universe under Fox, and it brought back fond memories of watching Blade trilogy in my teenage years.

The following contains MAJOR SPOILERS for Deadpool & Wolverine!

Among the many unexpected appearances in the movie “Deadpool & Wolverine,” one particular cameo left both the audience and the actor involved utterly astounded, as they hadn’t anticipated it would ever happen. As the main characters, portrayed by Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, transition into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they bid a touching farewell to the X-Men era that was under the Fox studio. The film is rich with appearances from beloved characters and heroes who never got their big-screen debut. However, it’s one enigmatic guest star that takes the cake as the most jaw-dropping surprise.

As a gamer in the thrilling world of “The Void,” I’ve found myself in an unexpected alliance with some familiar faces – Elektra (Jennifer Garner), Gambit (Channing Tatum), Laura/X-23 (Dafne Keen), and surprisingly, Blade (Wesley Snipes)! Fans were eagerly anticipating a few cameos in the latest Deadpool & Wolverine adventure, but nobody saw this comeback coming from Snipes as Blade after Blade: Trinity.

1. “I never imagined it could happen. I didn’t believe we had the chance to succeed. I thought Marvel and Disney weren’t interested given their plans with Mahershala. It seemed illogical to me, but when an unexpected call came from Ryan Reynolds after 20 years, I knew I had to take the call. He shared his idea, and they agreed to move forward. If I was on board, so were they. Here we are.”

Wesley Snipes Says He ‘Wasn’t Blade Ready’

As a longtime fan of Marvel movies, I can truly appreciate the lengths to which the cast and crew go to keep their productions shrouded in secrecy. Having followed the industry for years and attended several premieres, I’ve seen firsthand how dedicated they are to protecting the big reveals.

1. Apart from maintaining secrecy, another hurdle for Wesley Snipes in reprising his role as Blade was regaining his physical fitness to don the character’s signature leather armor and trench coat. Prior to filming, Snipes dedicated a month to honing his fighting skills so he could portray the Daywalker once more on screen. In his own words:

I’ve never lived the life of a superhero like Blade. My days are spent in the comfort of my own home, not roaming the streets in a trench coat and sunglasses with hidden fangs. When I was given the opportunity to step into Blade’s shoes for a movie role, I knew it wouldn’t be an easy feat.
