As a seasoned gamer with years of experience under my belt, I must say that the upcoming Marvel Mystic Mayhem game has me thoroughly intrigued! The roster of heroes and villains they’ve hinted at is nothing short of exciting, especially the enigmatic Black Knight who rides a Pegasus!
It seems that NetEase could be preparing to launch “Marvel Rivals”, their version of “Overwatch”, in December. However, they’ve also recently unveiled a new Marvel-themed game called “Marvel Mystic Mayhem”.
Instead of being similar to competitors, Mystic Mayhem stands out as a team-focused tactical RPG. However, it shares one aspect with an upcoming shooter – both feature a roster of Marvel characters who specialize in mysticism, including some unexpectedly magical ones.
Who are the Playable Characters in Mystic Mayhem?
From the title, it seems the game primarily revolves around magical characters. However, similar to how Spider-Man and Iron Man were incorporated into the storyline, additional characters from the same intellectual property are introduced to battle Doctor Strange’s foe, Nightmare, in this conflict.
The official site for the game confirms the base roster, which includes:
Doctor Strange – The Sorcerer Supreme and face of all things magic in the Marvel IP.
Scarlet Witch – One of the most powerful mutants in the MCU who can alter reality.
Hulk – One of Marvel’s powerful characters, appears to have received an enhancement specifically for the game.
As a gamer, I’d describe this as a character with the ability to summon an adaptable suit of armor. The cool part is, it adjusts its size on the fly!
Spiderman isn’t primarily a sorcerer, but he often teams up with Doctor Strange and might benefit from magical enhancements from an ally. He has the ability to perform feats typical of a spider.

In a more straightforward manner, you could say: Iron Man – Tony Stark’s armor is less about magic and more about advanced technology. It seems to enhance the magical abilities of his teammates.
Mr. Negative possesses several abilities, one notable one being the capacity to infuse various weapons with his own energy.
Lady Bullseye –Lady Bullseye, although seemingly without superpowers, is likely adept at transforming everyday objects into weapons due to her title. She’s also known for her skills in close-quarters combat and the use of a katana.
Psylocke – One more beloved character from the X-Men universe is Betsy Braddock, who possesses extraordinary psychic capabilities that she can employ as lethal weapons. Moreover, she is equipped with telepathic talents.
My Take on Doppelganger: I’m a six-armed version of everyone’s favorite web-slinger, Spider-Man. Unlike the original, I don’t have much going on upstairs, but boy, can I swing through the city and pull off amazing feats! I’m not just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man; I’m a force to be reckoned with!
Juggernaut – Professor X’s sibling, interestingly not possessing mutant abilities. Juggernaut derives his powers from the Ruby of Cyttorak, which endows invincibility upon contact.
Sleepwalker –One of Marvel’s lesser-known characters, Sleepwalker is part of a unique team known as ‘dream enforcers’. In comic book lore, he has had run-ins with Nightmare. This character can create illusions to ensnare adversaries.
Moon Knight – Known as Marvel’s equivalent to Batman, Moon Knight is a former assassin suffering from mental instability who was bestowed with lunar powers by the Egyptian deity Khonshu. Within him reside various personalities, each possessing unique skills that aid in his superhero activities.
As a devotee, I’d put it this way: I’m all about Misty Knight, a key figure in Heroes for Hire. She’s not just a detective with martial arts finesse, but her uniqueness lies in her bionic arm, granting her superhuman strength. However, the rest of her body is ordinary, which means she can’t shirk responsibilities that her physical abilities can handle, whether it’s tasks for her back or her legs.
Man-Thing –One of Marvel’s enigmatic monsters, Man-Thing was once a human who underwent a metamorphosis into this low-intelligence creature with raw instinct. He boasts immense strength and the ability to change shape, but he also has an uncanny knack for detecting people’s feelings, particularly fear.

In the unveiling of the trailer, brief appearances of additional characters were hinted, who might not be accessible at the initial release. However, it’s likely that they will be incorporated into the game at a later stage. Although there was no actual gameplay demonstrated for these characters, some concept art has been subtly suggested in the sneak peek.
Thor – The Norse deity known as the God of Thunder, who seems to draw his strength from mystical powers. When he enters the game, expect him to be an unstoppable force!
Black Knight – In the comic books, this character is initially a peaceful scientist. After inheriting a magical sword, he gains extraordinary powers. He’s recognized for his strategic prowess and often travels on a winged horse called a Pegasus.
Sif or Valkyrie – Whether it’s Sif or Valkyrie, they are both powerful warriors allied with Thor, known for their exceptional combat skills. They should possess the same robustness as an average Asgardian.

Possible Villains in the Game
In the teaser trailer, some antagonist characters made an appearance that weren’t initially revealed in the character lineup. At this point, it appears Shuma-Gorath, a foe from Doctor Strange, is one of them for certain. It seems likely that the other two villains could be Lilith, the Demon Mother, or either Marvel’s N’Kantu (The Living Mummy) or Brother Voodoo, due to the presence of needles; he too is a nemesis from the Doctor Strange universe, along with Nightmare.
It’s plausible that the antagonists won’t be characters you can control, but rather significant figures on the game’s battleground whom players must confront and defeat.

In the same vein as expanding the cast of heroes, the game may eventually introduce new villains too. Similarly, for the dreamscape roster, we might see darker or twisted versions of the existing characters within the game.
Well, I’ve been pondering about it, but until NetEase spills the beans, we gamers are left to merely take our best shots at guessing what’s next.
When is Mystic Mayhem Releasing?
With Marvel Rivals recently unveiled and already under development, it’s possible that NetEase plans to launch the game next year. Fans can anticipate a surge in marketing efforts for Rivals starting this November. After the release of the game, however, it wouldn’t be unexpected if NetEase began offering sneak peeks at Mystic Mayhem.
As a gamer, I’ve learned from experiencing Midnight Suns that it’s much more enjoyable when developers provide a comprehensive introduction to each character prior to release. This way, on launch day, I don’t find myself spending hours figuring out the ins and outs of every character, allowing me to jump straight into the gameplay instead.
Here’s the official description of the game:
Nightmare brings forth the gloomiest dreams of those awake, transforming the real world to mirror their deepest apprehensions! Engage in a fight against the Master of Dreams as he intrudes upon the minds of renowned heroes and adversaries, stirring up their hidden anxieties to shatter the waking realm!
The exact launch date for “Marvel Mystic Mayhem” hasn’t been disclosed yet, but it’s anticipated to debut on mobile devices around the next year.
