Marvel Rivals continues to be a buzzing subject within the gaming community since its significant debut towards the end of last year. Ever since, it’s drawn in countless gamers due to its impressive array of Marvel superheroes and its engaging team-based competitive format as a hero-shooter game.
It’s not shocking that since Marvel Rivals, a game produced by NetEase which is free-to-play, generates income primarily through the sale of in-game items like cosmetics. Each week, new cosmetic options become available for players to buy. However, some fans have voiced their disappointment as they feel that a significant number of the recent additions lack ties to Marvel’s comic book heritage and instead cater more towards the Asian market, as suggested by an unhappy “fan”.
As a passionate gamer, I’ve noticed some buzz lately about the rising number of game characters sporting “Asian-inspired” skins instead of those based on classic comic book lore. This topic caught my attention when Miller Ross, a renowned Marvel Rivals insider, chimed in to clarify the difference between these character types and how it’s easy for us fans to get them mixed up.
As a gamer, I can’t deny that the latest skins, like the striking “Immortal Sovereign” Scarlet Witch one, are well-crafted. However, it seems some players just can’t seem to appreciate them fully. They’ve been quite vocal online, even going so far as to label these skins as underwhelming.
Miller pointed out that culturally-influenced skins account for approximately 12.8% of the game’s total collection of 117 different character appearances, which encompasses variations and default options. He further highlighted that many of these are tied to Marvel history. To illustrate, the Immortal Dragon set is based on K’un-Lun, a place of significance within the Marvel universe’s lore.
Regarding the recently released Peach Momoko skins, it’s important to note that these designs were crafted in partnership with an esteemed Japanese Marvel artist. Additionally, the Lunar New Year holiday skins were only available for a brief period as part of a special event.

Miller’s arguments hold weight, given that Marvel Rivals consistently unveils an array of novel skins on a weekly basis, boasting diverse themes. The main query arises: for how long will they maintain this momentum? If their skin rollout pace matches the speed of their new hero introductions, fans can anticipate a consistent flow of fresh content.

Just before Ultron’s anticipated arrival next week, don’t forget to explore the two skins available now in the shop: the “Immortal Sovereign” skin for Scarlet Witch and Adam Warlock’s “Immortal Avatar” skin. Frankly, it’s quite surprising to see additional skins for Warlock, isn’t it?
