Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday Cast Has Everyone Saying The Same Thing

On March 26, Marvel captivated us all with a live broadcast unveiling the cast for the 2026 blockbuster “Avengers: Doomsday.” Every 10 to 15 minutes, the camera revealed an actor’s name seated on a chair. Some of the stars were confirmed as expected, like Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and the new Fantastic Four crew consisting of Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. However, others such as Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn, Alan Cumming from the original “X-Men” series left us pleasantly surprised. In total, 27 names were announced, but it was who didn’t get a chair that had fans buzzing online.

Beneath Marvel Studios’ recent post on X (previously Twitter) about “Avengers: Doomsday” commencing production, numerous users mentioned the actors and characters they hoped to see who were omitted. User @djtickle commented, “Are some missing? Spider-Man, Wanda, Strange, Hulk, Starlord, Hawkeye, Vision, Wolverine, Deadpool, Nick Fury, Captain Marvel, or War Machine.” Many viewers were intrigued by Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, although the Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield versions might also be considered for a multiversal narrative. Other frequently suggested names included Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds), Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), and Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen).

One of the surprising absences, as noted by user @RxseGoldAngels, was Doctor Strange (portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch). Given his recent film was titled “Multiverse of Madness,” it seems fitting that he would appear in this second-to-last “Avengers” movie before the Multiverse Saga concludes. However, Marvel might be holding some secrets in reserve.

Could Marvel be hiding a few more X-Men from us?

It seems that some Marvel characters, such as Daredevil, Punisher, and Moon Knight, may not appear in “Avengers: Doomsday” or “Secret Wars.” A user named Abdulla_Albader asked if these characters would be present, but it’s unlikely they’d be called when Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.) arrives.

It seems to me that Monica Rambeau [played by Teyonah Parris], an unexpected omission, could have been the bridge connecting to the ‘X-men 2003-verse.” In the post-credits scene of “The Marvels”, Monica finds herself in a different dimension and is welcomed by Beast (Kelsey Grammer). Since it’s known that Grammer will appear in “Doomsday”, it’s plausible that the realm Monica entered could play a role in the narrative. This could also account for the presence of other “X-Men” characters like Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart), Cyclops (James Marsden), and Mystique (Rebecca Romijn).

There’s plenty of former “X-Men” stars who might join “Doomsday,” but it’s plausible that this announcement video is concealing a few. After all, Marvel needs to preserve some surprises, don’t they? Maybe the studio is still working out deals with certain actors. In fact, any character from any universe could be involved, which is the beauty of the multiverse – you can essentially do anything you imagine.

Some Marvel heroes may wait to show up in Avengers: Secret Wars

In the upcoming film “Avengers: Doomsday,” it appears that only some of the Avengers will be featured prominently in the first part. Characters like Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), who had significant roles in “Avengers: Endgame,” might not make an immediate appearance. Instead, Doctor Doom could be causing chaos across realities, encountering specific hero teams. Based on recent announcements, the main cast will likely include older X-Men actors, members of the Fantastic Four, and the Thunderbolts, in addition to Captain America (Anthony Mackie) and Thor (Chris Hemsworth), along with a few other heroes.

At the conclusion of “Captain America: Brave New World,” Cap expresses a desire to reform the Avengers. This could lead to a confrontation between Doom and a revised team, potentially featuring Black Panther (played by Letitia Wright), Ant-Man, and Shang-Chi (Simu Liu). It’s worth noting that other heroes might not have joined these teams yet, which is why they aren’t part of the initial cast lineup. For instance, Spider-Man is pursuing his own path, Doctor Strange has ventured into another dimension with Clea (played by Charlize Theron), and Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) continues to associate with his grandfather.

In a potential twist, these characters might take on more significant parts in “Avengers: Secret Wars,” ensuring both their screen time and the actors’ paychecks are saved for a single film. It does feel unusual that Spider-Man would be missing from “Doomsday,” given his pivotal role within the franchise, but it’s possible that the announced actors aren’t the only ones involved – they’re just the ones Marvel is ready to reveal at this time. The full picture will become clear when “Avengers: Doomsday” hits theaters on May 1, 2026.
