The Marvel Universe continues to grow, as fresh endeavors debut both in cinemas and through Disney+ subscriptions. Fans who have followed the Marvel films sequentially for years may have been disappointed by some recent releases, but Deadpool and Wolverine shattered box office records. There’s a buzz that Marvel Studios is heavily invested in Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s characters, which makes perfect sense to me.
The striking success of Deadpool 3 contrasts sharply with flops like The Marvels, suggesting that the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has faced challenges in the post-Avengers: Endgame era. There’s been talk about how Deadpool and Wolverine might influence future MCU films, and a fresh rumor (via SHH) suggests that Marvel is considering a genuine trilogy for Jackman and Reynolds. Given Shawn Levy’s threequel was a clear comeback, I believe this idea has strong merit.
Given that this is merely a rumor, we should approach this report cautiously until the studio offers some clarification one way or another. However, it’s worth noting that the success of Deadpool 3 has been quite striking compared to projects such as Eternals, Ant-Man 3, and Thor: Love and Thunder, which did not seem to connect strongly with audiences. Furthermore, The Marvels’ disappointing box office performance, following directly on from Deadpool & Wolverine, seemed to suggest a clear trend.
As a film enthusiast, I’ve been eagerly anticipating the moment when Logan and Wade Wilson would leap into the thrilling world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Unfortunately, legal hurdles stood in the way, but with Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox, that door finally swung open. And to my immense delight, Deadpool 3 didn’t disappoint – it met and surpassed all the hype!
Indeed, there are several circulating theories regarding Deadpool and Wolverine’s involvement in the MCU. One intriguing speculation is that they might make an appearance in the Russo Brothers’ upcoming duo of films, titled Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars. Given the grandeur and multiverse spanning nature of these projects, it seems plausible that unexpected events could transpire.
The chemistry between Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds was incredibly evident in their interactions, significantly contributing to the success of the third Deadpool film. Given its massive box office earnings, it’s logical to assume that Kevin Feige and his team would want to capitalize on this momentum for future projects. Although Ryan Reynolds hasn’t expressed interest in a fourth movie yet, maybe he can be persuaded. However, I truly hope they share some screen time in the upcoming Avengers films.
In the upcoming slate of Marvel Cinematic Universe films, “Captain America: A New World Order” will be shown in theaters starting from Valentine’s Day, February 14th. Meanwhile, mark your calendars for its future release on the big screen, which is scheduled for 2025.
