Marvel’s First Family Gets A Fresh Start In The Fantastic Four: First Steps Trailer

Over the last few years, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has relied extensively on sequels featuring familiar characters. Movies like “Deadpool & Wolverine,” “The Marvels,” and “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” have closed off many character storylines, and even “Thunderbolts*” upcoming this year is a team-up film with characters we’ve seen before. However, this summer brings some fresh faces to the screen. On July 25, we get to know the new cast in “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” which introduces the latest version of Marvel’s original superhero family.

On February 3, Marvel Studios released a short 20-second sneak peek. The clip primarily featured children running and laughing while staring at television screens. However, the full trailer provides a detailed glimpse of the main characters. These include Pedro Pascal portraying Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm (Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm (Human Torch), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm (The Thing). The trailer also hints that this movie will present a unique visual experience compared to previous Marvel Studios productions, with its retro-futuristic style evident in the cityscapes and astronaut outfits.

The remainder of the trailer abounds with delights for Marvel enthusiasts, particularly Michael Giacchino’s majestic, fittingly cosmic soundtrack. It’s evident that Marvel is commencing Phase 6 in a spectacular manner, and it seems we might be in for an impressive conclusion to the Multiverse Saga (if we dare hope?).

The Fantastic Four: First Steps trailer already has us excited for Avengers: Doomsday

Enjoying the latest versions of Mr. Fantastic and The Thing is fantastic, especially since they’re set to make extended appearances. Marvel Studios seems to be fully committed to this new team, as indicated by the confirmation that the Fantastic Four will show up in “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars.” It’s no wonder they’ll appear in the former, given that their main adversary, Doctor Doom (portrayed by Robert Downey Jr.), gives his name to the subtitle.

It’s likely that Doctor Doom could be subjected to some teasing in “First Steps,” perhaps during a post-credits sequence. However, it’s confirmed that both Doctor Doom and Galactus (Ralph Ineson) will face off, as Galactus plans to consume their world. Accompanying Galactus will be the Silver Surfer (Julia Garner), acting in some role. Somehow or another, the Fantastic Four must find a way to enter Universe 616, which is the primary timeline of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In movies like “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” and “Deadpool & Wolverine,” it’s been shown that there are multiple ways to travel between different realities. Given Reed Richards’ genius for science and his history of space exploration, it seems likely he’ll find a way to join the main Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The Multiverse might not be as prominent in “Captain America: Brave New World” and “Thunderbolts,” but it’s sure to make a comeback eventually. Despite knowing that trouble may lie ahead, the “Fantastic Four” trailer has left us optimistic about the future of the MCU.
