During Mexico City Art Week, MASA Gallery is partnering with New York’s Luhring Augustine for their second joint exhibition. This unique event will take place at MASA’s historical location, featuring a collection of six artists and designers – three from each gallery. The collaboration creates a dialogue between Mexican and international voices in a cross-cultural visual exchange.
As a fan, I find the show captivating due to its exploration of friendship and its dynamic nature. It creates a unique environment where unlikely friendships emerge amidst familiar quirks. The exhibits seem to possess a life of their own, radiating an infectious eagerness to connect, even identifying or admiring aspects within someone perceived as different.
Spread out over three areas, the exhibition delves into a sequence of artistic scenes, weaving connections between Pipilotti Rist and Alma Allen, who explore inner visions and collective consciousness by turning the surreal into tangible form; while Eva LeWitt and Héctor Esrawe utilize industrial materials to straddle the line between lightness and architecture. In other parts of the exhibition, Renata Petersen and Diego Singh combine glassblowing and painting techniques, creating a figurative and abstract blend that stirs a sense of pure humanity in a spiritual realm.
MASA x Luhring Augustine: Vol 2 is now on view until March 29, 2025.
