Maserati GT2 Stradale Goes Full Throttle on the Andalusian Coast

The GT2 Stradale by Maserati originated from their MC20 halo project and initially started as a plan that combined the race-oriented performance of its sports car sibling with the comfort suited for long journeys. Despite being an ambitious concept, the model became Maserati’s most potent road-legal vehicle upon its market entry last August.

Six months later found the GT2 Stradale arriving on Spain’s Andalusian coast, resplendent in its vibrant hues. Maserati had parked these beauties under the dappled shade of olive trees nearby, inviting a select gathering of auto enthusiasts to take the wheel for a unique hands-on experience. Their road trip, from mountainous tracks to Circuito Ascari, was documented by TopMob in their latest Day in the Life, revealing how the realm of racing has seamlessly transitioned onto our roads.

Following an evening admiring Marbella’s scenic view, set to be their race track soon, the adventure kicked off bright and early the next day with a comprehensive briefing covering all essential details. After grasping the technical aspects, each driver gracefully exited their personal GT2 Stradale vehicles via butterfly doors and embarked on their journey towards Ronda. The transition from the town center to the challenging rural roads allowed the four drive modes, powered by the high-performing Nettuno V6 engine, to deliver a secure yet exhilarating ride, showcasing its street performance to the limit.

After driving through, the convoy of vehicles arrived at the newly constructed La Almazara oil mill, an architectural marvel crafted by Philippe Starck. Here, they stopped for lunch before continuing towards Circuito Ascari. Eager to kick-start the action, the drivers parked their cars and proceeded indoors, where they were greeted by Maserati’s design head, Klaus Busse. In an exclusive discussion about the Fuoriserie personalization program, Busse walked them through the creative process behind the Trident’s car development. “At Maserati, we appreciate how cars function and thus have a profound respect for the engineers’ requests as well as our own belief in what the car requires to enhance its performance,” he explained. “The MC20 serves as a blank canvas, upon which you can add intentional aerodynamic components, ensuring you will never be out of sync with what looks aesthetically pleasing.

Later, Busse also tackled the topic of city driving within urban areas, a point of contention during the design process. He explained, “It’s important to consider the current societal context. Some places question the role of a supercar in the city, so that was one factor in designing this mobile sculpture, not something overly aggressive.” The drivers then got a sense of its versatile character before getting back into their vehicles. Under the guidance of experts, they each attempted to accelerate from 0-62 mph in just 2.8 seconds on the racetrack, using the Corsa Drive Mode for added speed.

Invigorated by excitement, the drivers reunited with Andrea Simonetti, Product Manager of Busse and Maserati, for a selection of authentic Spanish tapas. These bite-sized delicacies mirrored the luxury of the driving experience in a culinary sense. At the table, Busse expressed to TopMob, “Whether it was the scenic drive or the pleasure of good companionship and delicious food, our aim is for everyone to appreciate and engage with their surroundings. Our mission at Maserati is to foster connections through beauty. Cars in general can serve as a means of connection, but aesthetically pleasing cars even more so.
