‘Masters of the Universe’: Idris Elba in Talks to Play Man-at-Arms for Amazon MGM

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a surge of nostalgia hearing about Idris Elba joining the cast of Masters of the Universe. Growing up in the ’80s, I was an ardent fan of He-Man and his epic battles against Skeletor. The news that Elba will play Man-at-Arms brings a smile to my face and a twinge of excitement in my heart.

Idris Elba is in talks to help power Masters of the Universe for Amazon MGM Studios.

Ives Elba is in advanced talks to portray Duncan, also known as Man-at-Arms, in the live-action film version of the well-known Mattel toy collection. Travis Knight will helm the production, which casts Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man and Camila Mendes as Teela, with Alison Brie stepping into the role of Evil Lyn.

The movie “Masters of the Universe” is set to premiere in theaters on June 5, 2026. It’s produced by Escape Artists and Mattel Films.

The movie project is being led by Knight, with a script written by Chris Butler. Initially, David Callaham, Aaron Nee, and Adam Nee wrote the screenplay’s first draft.

Mattel launched the Masters of the Universe franchise with a line of action figures that debuted in 1982. A year later, the animated series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe debuted in syndication and was followed video games and other elements.

Idris Elba returns to lend his voice to Knuckles once more in “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” by Paramount Pictures, set for release next month. Additionally, he voices Knuckles in the upcoming Paramount+ series titled “Knuckles“. Coming soon to screens are other projects such as the action-comedy Heads of State from Amazon MGM Studios, starring alongside John Cena and Priyanka Chopra.

More to come.
