James Gunn, from DC Studios, expressed on the ‘Happy Sad Confused’ podcast that he has been considering incorporating Robert Pattinson’s Batman character into his developing DC universe. The launch of the animated series ‘Creature Commandos’ marked the start of Gunn’s DC universe last month.
Currently, Robert Pattinson’s portrayal of Batman resides outside the main DC Universe in an alternate reality known as Elseworld. However, director James Gunn has expressed interest in incorporating this character into his version of the DC Universe. When asked about it, he said, “I’ve thought about it, yes. I think about everything. I discuss everything.” He also confirmed that he is dedicated to creating stories within both the main DC Universe and Elseworlds, stating, “I am committed to telling stories in the DCU and Elseworlds.” At present, the Batman series is situated in the Elseworld realm, with Gunn expressing a desire for the freedom to explore Elseworld narratives.
Matt Reeves, director of The Batman, expressed at the Golden Globes in regard to Gunn’s thoughts about incorporating Batman into the DCU, “It essentially boils down to if it aligns. I had a story I wanted to tell. An epic crime saga. They’ve been fantastic about letting me pursue that. James and Peter are on board with that. What lies ahead, I can’t truly predict. I’m currently focused on preparing for the shooting of The Batman Part II, which is my top priority.” When inquired about the possibility of Rob being the DCU’s Batman if they decide to pursue it, Reeves answered, “I’m unsure. We’ll have to wait and see where that leads us.
The Batman 2 arrives on October 1, 2027.
