As a fellow millennial (or even older), I can’t help but nostalgically recall the sight of Mattel’s name gracing countless toys, from board games to action figures. Although they’ve been making strides in the mobile realm, Mattel’s newest venture could be their most ambitious yet: introducing Mattel Match: Toybox Unlocked on mobile devices!

Just as its title suggests, Mattel Match appears to be a match-three puzzle game where you align toys. However, what we can confirm is that it will showcase an extensive selection of popular Mattel brands, such as Barbie, Hot Wheels, Uno, Masters of the Universe, and many more.

Instead of expecting an action-adventure style game, I believe Toybox Unlocked still sounds enjoyable. It guarantees a unique puzzle-based journey, gradually revealing new items that will undoubtedly trigger a surge of nostalgia for older gamers. And let’s not forget the impact of nostalgia!

In partnership with Uken, we’re preparing to debut Mattel Match: Toybox Unlocked, initially in a soft launch for the Philippines and Canada. A larger rollout is planned across the globe in 2025, culminating in a complete release by the end of this year.

Although some of Mattel’s brands might seem outdated compared to modern powerhouses, they still have strong contenders like the consistently beloved Barbie. Even though a game developed by a reputable company like Uken might offer numerous features, relying solely on nostalgia may not attract newcomers who are unaware of Mattel’s presence.

As a dedicated puzzler, I must admit that I’ll be squaring off against some formidable opponents in the realm of brain-teasers.
