Matthew Rhys to Lead ‘Widow’s Bay’ Series at Apple

Apple TV+ is adding another Emmy winner to its talent roster.

As an avid fan, I’m thrilled to announce that I, Matthew Rhys, am set to star in and produce a gripping series called “Widow’s Bay” for one of the leading streamers. In this chilling tale, I will portray the mayor of a coastal New England town who stubbornly dismisses his townsfolk’s warnings that the place is under a curse. Having previously captivated audiences with my roles in “The Americans” and “Perry Mason,” I can’t wait to delve into this eerie mystery and bring another compelling character to life.

The series “Widow’s Bay” originates from the mind of creator and producer Katie Dippold, known for her work on “The Heat” and “Haunted Mansion”. Apple Studios is also involved. Hiro Murai, recognized for his work in “Atlanta” and “Mr. & Mrs. Smith”, has signed on to direct the pilot and serve as an executive producer. The show received a series order from Apple TV+ back in September 2024.

Today’s announcement about Rhys being cast is followed by the news about Amy Adams in the Apple TV+ series, “Cape Fear”, which was revealed earlier today as well.

Among a few ongoing television projects, Rhys is deeply involved with. At present, he’s shooting the limited series titled “The Beast in Me“, where he works alongside Claire Danes for Netflix. Additionally, the serial-killer drama “Silent River” (co-starring John Krasinski) is lined up at Amazon Prime Video. Recently, he concluded filming the BBC/BritBox mystery series “Towards Zero“, an adaptation of Agatha Christie’s novel. He is represented by CAA, Anonymous Content, and United Agents.

Dippold, Murai, Rhys, Claudia Shin, and Carver Karaszewski are serving as executive producers for the production of Widow’s Bay, with Joanne Toll sharing this role as co-executive producer.
