On Friday evening at the Pyramid Stage, Matty Healy showcased his captivating personality as The 1975 began the main performances for the Glastonbury Festival.
With enthusiasm, the British member of their band engaged in heartfelt discussions alongside his colleagues while performing crowd-pleasing tunes such as “Chocolate,” “About You,” and “Somebody Else” to the delight of over 100,000 fans, drawn from a diverse collection of their music.

Amongst his bandmates, the British musician expressed earnest sentiments as they captivated an audience of more than 100,000 with popular numbers like “Chocolate,” “About You,” and “Somebody Else” from their extensive repertoire.

The British member passionately conversed alongside his bandmates during their performance, delighting over 100,000 spectators with hits such as “Chocolate,” “About You,” and “Somebody Else” from their expansive discography.
Healy, true to form, started off the lengthy performance by jokingly making fun of himself and others while holding a pint of beer in his hand, just as he usually does.
He openly acknowledged his aspiration to be a rockstar, but confessed that performing at the U.K.’s prestigious music festival was truly terrifying and left him anxious. He found it hard to convey genuine feelings on stage… However, this experience made him recognize that he might indeed be exceptional. He playfully suggested that he could be the top songwriter of his generation.
He candidly continued: “It’s the first time in my life I don’t know what to say.”
As a devoted fan, I must admit that I was slightly taken aback during the live broadcast of Glastonbury on BBC, as frontman Healy made it clear that our beloved band had steered away from politics. For those of us at home, it might have been a bit disappointing not to witness a more politically charged performance in this show.
He expressed: “It’s important for you to understand that this is a deliberate choice… We aim for our impact not to be defined by politics, but rather by love and camaraderie.
After the singer delivered his performance, he quickly expressed conflicting sentiments. During their rendition of “Love It If We Made It,” screens surrounding the band broadcast various clips, including scenes from KKK rituals, Donald Trump, Harvey Weinstein, the conflict in Gaza, Kanye West, instances of U.S. police brutality, images of 9/11 and London’s Grenfell Tower on fire.
As a gamer, I’m pumped! This year at Glastonbury, The 1975 are kicking off the headlining acts, with Neil Young taking over on Saturday night. But here’s where it gets even more exciting – Sunday belongs to the American sensation, Olivia Rodrigo!
The Glastonbury Festival runs until June 29.
