Although Iron Man met his end in 2019, Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is now gearing up for a new phase, and I’m eager to see what lies ahead. The MCU, which began its journey in 2008, has been a cinematic marvel, lasting nearly two decades and consistently ruling the box office. A significant factor contributing to this success was the presence of remarkable characters who formed the core of the evolving universe. At first, this included the Avengers team, with Iron Man taking center stage.
Although Iron Man wasn’t officially the Avengers’ leader, he kicked off the Marvel Cinatic Universe (MCU) with his own film in 2008. This set the tone for his story, which intertwined heavily with the MCU’s development, making the Infinity Saga seem very much about Tony Stark. However, when Iron Man sacrificed himself in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, the gap left behind has only expanded. Luckily, it seems like the MCU is now signaling who will take over as the new central character.
The Question Of Who Would Serve As The MCU’s Next Iron Man Has Been Ongoing Since Tony Stark’s Death In Avengers: Endgame
Tony Stark Was Likely The Anchor Being Of The Sacred Timeline
When Tony Stark destroyed Thanos and his forces, he paid the ultimate price for it, leaving behind a devastating void. His loved ones, including Peter Parker, Pepper Potts, and Morgan Stark, were left heartbroken by this immense loss. However, Tony’s selfless act served as a beacon of inspiration for other heroes, driving them to persevere and push forward. The world, however, remained scarred from the five-year blip and the consequences of agreements like the Sokovia Accords, causing the superheroes to grow increasingly divided. In the aftermath of this catastrophe, there arose the crucial question: Who would rise up to fill Tony Stark’s shoes?
The character most similar to Iron Man in terms of abilities is Riri Williams, who created her own Ironheart suit. Additionally, Peter Parker, mentored by Tony Stark, and characters like Doctor Strange were considered potential leaders for the Avengers. However, with Sam Wilson’s Captain America seemingly taking the lead of the new Avengers, it’s still uncertain who will fill the role previously held by Tony Stark.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps Sets Mister Fantastic Up As The Closest Thing To The MCU’s Next Iron Man In More Than One Way
Mister Fantastic Is Already MIrroring Tony Stark’s Story In Several Important Ways
It seems that the previews for The Fantastic Four: First Steps suggest that Reed Richards, also known as Mister Fantastic, will take on a leading role in the MCU much like Iron Man did. Reed is exceptionally intelligent and his inventions have put the world in danger from a powerful threat, Galactus. As suggested by the trailers, Reed feels accountable, as he’s been pushing the limits of what’s possible and crossing natural boundaries. Similar to Tony Stark, Reed may have attracted extraterrestrial attention and created technology that led to widespread destruction.
Due to their new roles, both Reed and Tony assume leadership positions among the heroes, working diligently to safeguard the world from further damage. This dedication to responsibility, public reassurances, and leadership style clearly echoes the character development of Reed Richards within the MCU, mirroring the role Tony Stark played throughout the Infinity Saga. It’s logical that the MCU would evolve in this manner.
Why Having Mister Fantastic Serve A Very Similar Role To Iron Man In The MCU Makes Sense
Mister Fantastic Will Shape The Future Of The MCU
Reed Richards, together with the other members of The Fantastic Four, are frequently known as Marvel’s Original Family. This is because they were among some of the initial superheroes who gained immense popularity under the Marvel banner and essentially formed the core of Marvel Comics. It has always seemed fitting for these characters to be key figures in the MCU, but due to complications with character rights, their story has only recently been adapted for the MCU. However, more than that, Reed is shaping up to be the main adversary to Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, which underscores his significance.
In the world of comics, Victor von Doom and Mr. Fantastic (Reed Richards) have long been depicted as each other’s greatest adversaries. While they are intellectually close, their goals and aspirations frequently clash. This contrast between them is a recurring theme in the comics. As we move from one story arc to another in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), introducing Reed Richards and placing him against Robert Downey Jr.’s Doom seems like a deliberate reference to the part Reed will play in the future of the MCU.
