Medical Examiner Announces Gene Hackman Died A Week After Betsy Arakawa And More Information

On February 26, I was deeply saddened to learn about the passing of legendary actor Gene Hackman, along with his wife Betsy Arakawa, and one of their beloved dogs, in their Santa Fe home. In the days following this heartbreaking discovery, some details emerged, but it wasn’t until recently that the medical examiner on the case disclosed the causes of their deaths and other relevant information. Among these revelations was that Hackman passed away a week after Arakawa.

In a press conference streamed online by TMZ, Heather Jarrell, the head of medical examinations for New Mexico’s Office of the Medical Investigator, announced that the cause of death for Yuriko Arakawa was Hantavirus, a potentially deadly disease spread by mice. Arakawa is believed to have passed away on February 11. On the other hand, it’s estimated that Hackman died on February 18 due to cardiovascular complications, with Alzheimer’s significantly contributing to his demise.

After the bodies of Gene Hackman and Betsy Arakawa were discovered, authorities quickly assured everyone that no signs of foul play were detected, and carbon monoxide poisoning was also ruled out. An autopsy on Hackman revealed no injuries. Recently, Dr. Michael Baden, not involved in the case, speculated that insights from Hackman’s pacemaker data might shed light on the circumstances surrounding his death.
