As I reflect upon the journey of Ashutosh Rana, a man who rose from minor roles to become a prominent figure in Bollywood, I am truly inspired by his resilience and determination. His story is a testament to the power of perseverance, as he braved rejection and adversity to share the screen with some of the biggest stars in the industry.
In the past few decades, a talented actor named Ashutosh Rana entered Bollywood’s scene without realizing he would one day become an industry veteran. He initially took on minor roles but gained recognition for his villainous role in the 1998 film “Dushman.” At one point, even Mahesh Bhatt turned him away, but Ashutosh Rana’s persistence eventually led to sharing the screen with prominent Bollywood stars like Shah Rukh Khan. If you haven’t figured it out yet, we’re referring to none other than Ashutosh Ramnarayan Neekhra, who goes by the stage name Ashutosh Rana in his professional career.
Ashutosh Rana and Mahesh Bhatt share an intriguing tale that goes back to when Rana was searching for employment opportunities. It is said that during his struggle phase, the graduate of the National School of Drama (NSD) had a brief encounter with director-producer Bhatt, who was apparently planning to produce the TV series, Swabhimaan at that time.
Upon encountering the renowned director, Rana reflexively showed respect by touching his feet. However, Alia Bhatt’s father disapproved of this action. Consequently, he scolded his security for granting access to such an individual on the sets of his film. Despite several unsuccessful attempts, when Rana had another opportunity to engage with Bhatt, he repeated his respectful gesture once more.
In my own words, I’d say: When asked about his actions, I shared that my upbringing instilled in me the importance of seeking blessings from the elders whenever appropriate. This resonated deeply with the filmmaker, ultimately leading to him giving me a chance in the hit serial, Swabhimaan. My debut with this esteemed director not only kick-started my career but also paved the way for subsequent collaborations in Jakhm and Dushman. Ashutosh Rana and I have shared a professional journey ever since.
He gained prominence as a charismatic actor who often sent shivers through the crowd with his menacing roles. Since then, he has collaborated with actors like Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt in Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, Ranveer Singh in Simmba, Shah Rukh Khan in Pathaan, Hrithik Roshan in War, and Deepika Padukone and Anil Kapoor in Fighter, to name a few, in numerous successful movies.
Besides being married to actress Renuka Shahane, best known for portraying Salman Khan’s sister-in-law Pooja Choudhury in Hum Aapke Hain Koun, Rana is also a proud father of two sons, Shauryaman Neekhra and Satyendra Neekhra.
