Meet actor born into non-film family, almost drowned during debut with Akshay Kumar, Priyanka Chopra and is set to feature in upcoming epic Bollywood film

In the world of Bollywood, Lara Dutta was crowned Miss Universe 2000. Shortly after, she received numerous offers in Indian cinema. Three years later, she made her acting debut in the film Andaaz, starring alongside Akshay Kumar and Priyanka Chopra Jonas. If you haven’t figured it out yet, we’re referring to none other than Lara Dutta from Bollywood!

Growing up in a household outside of Bollywood, with my father serving in the Indian Air Force, I found myself traveling extensively rather than settling into a traditional lifestyle. Eventually, I put down roots in Bengaluru and earned my degree from a revered educational institution. My journey took an extraordinary turn when I stepped onto the stage of various beauty pageants, ultimately claiming the title of Miss Universe and bringing that prestigious crown home.

In 2003, Bipasha Basu made her Bollywood debut with the profitable movie Andaaz, portraying a tomboy character named Kajal alongside Akshay Kumar. However, during filming for this project, she had a close call with drowning. The incident occurred while they were shooting the song Rabba Ishq Na Howe in Cape Town, South Africa.

On a rocky outcrop during an intense high tide, I found myself capturing a scene for Don 2. Suddenly, a powerful wave surged, causing the actress to lose her footing and slip off the rock. Overwhelmed by the waves, she was carried away. Fortunately, at that moment, Akshay, my fellow actor, heroically leapt into action, rescuing her from the relentless water.

Ever since I’ve been captivated by the world of cinema, I’ve been following Lara Dutta’s journey closely. On the professional front, this stunning actress has graced some truly blockbuster movies like Masti, No Entry, Bhagam Bhag, Partner, Billu Barber, Housefull, Don 2, just to mention a few. As her career was soaring to new heights, she crossed paths with the talented Indian tennis player, Mahesh Bhupathi, and their love story took flight in 2010.

Exactly one year later, they held their wedding ceremonies – a civil service on February 16, 2011, in Mumbai and a romantic Christian ceremony in Goa, the next year. In 2012, these famous individuals were fortunate enough to welcome their little girl, Saira Bhupathi, into their lives.

At the moment, Lara is eagerly looking forward to the premiere of her film titled “Welcome to the Jungle,” where she shares the screen with actors like Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, Paresh Rawal, Arshad Warsi, Raveena Tandon, Jacqueline Fernandez, and a few more. Additionally, Lara is set to portray Princess Kaikeyi in Nitesh Tiwari’s adaptation of the epic Ramayana.
