As a follower deeply intrigued by the lives of celebrities, I find Kunal Kapoor’s journey to be nothing short of inspiring. Here is a man who started his career as an unlikely fruit exporter but never let go of his dream to tread the path of cinema. His determination and perseverance are truly commendable.
This actor, known for his roles in numerous successful films, once held an unusual job as a fruit exporter while harboring dreams of becoming an actor himself. Despite his stardom, he eventually returned to the business world and flourished there too. It’s not hard to guess that this individual is part of the Bachchan family by marriage, given his unique career path.
Today in our trivia session, we’re discussing actor Kunal Kapoor, best known for Rang De Basanti. In a previous conversation with Mid-day, he shared his passion for cinema and expressed that he lives, works, and dreams on set. Kunal also mentioned, “If my work was merely for the sake of working, I would have persisted in what I did prior to films: exporting mangoes to Hong Kong.”
Kapoor shared that he was 18 years old when he took on this job, yet he expressed gratitude for having left it behind quickly and only ever yearned to be part of the movies. He added humorously, “Given today’s exchange rate between dollars and rupees, exporting mangoes could prove quite lucrative.” Initially, Kunal began his journey in filmmaking as an assistant director on the movie Aks before receiving professional acting training under renowned mentor Barry John.
Eventually, Kapoor first appeared sharing the screen with Tabu in Meenaxi: A Tale of Three Cities. However, it was in 2006 that he truly broke through, acting alongside Aamir Khan in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Rang De Basanti. Since then, there has been no slowing down for him; Kunal continued to star in numerous hit films such as Don 2, Aja Nachle, Bachna Ae Haseeno, and Dear Zindagi among others.
In the year 2012, Kunal ventured into a significant phase of his professional life by embarking on entrepreneurship with Ketto, a well-known crowd-funding platform dedicated to collecting funds for various projects. Joined by business partners Zaheer Adenwala and Varun Sheth, their innovative concept garnered immense popularity, attracting numerous major investors over the years. This increased interest significantly boosted Kunal’s net worth, which is estimated at around Rs 150 crores according to various sources.
In relation to Amitabh Bachchan, it’s worth noting that his brother, Ajitabh Bachchan, has three daughters: Nilima, Namrata, and Naina. Interestingly, Kunal is married to Naina, making her Amitabh Bachchan’s niece. As a result, we can consider Kunal as Amitabh Bachchan’s son-in-law by extension.
