At present, Tillotama Shome is earning applause and accolades for her performance in the crime drama series Paatal Lok Season 2 by Jaideep Ahlawat. In this production, she portrays Meghna Barua, a police officer from Nagaland. For those who may not be aware, Shome, who first garnered attention with Monsoon Wedding in 2001, has established a diverse career spanning both film and television throughout her years in the industry.

In a past interview, she disclosed that, unlike most of her contemporaries, she didn’t undergo formal acting education. Instead, she chose an unconventional path to understand human psychology and intricacies more deeply – by dedicating two years to working with inmates at the notorious Rikers Island Prison in New York.

She mentioned that she didn’t receive any formal training in the arts. Instead, she arrived with no prior experience. Unlike other artists, she didn’t attend NSD or FTI. Instead, her acting education came from spending two years working inside New York’s Riker Island Jail, a high-security facility housing both men and women. There, she collaborated with a female inmate and a male inmate for a period of two years. To be truthful, that’s where she received her acting training.

Shome remarked, “I was present alongside both students and inmates simultaneously. It was there that I gained insight into not just criminal behavior, but also the intricacies of human nature.

Ever since making her first appearance on screen, Tillotama Shome has showcased a wide range of characters. From Monsoon Wedding to Sir, A Death in the Gunj, Delhi Crime, and now Paatal Lok Season 2, her acting talent is evident in every role she takes on.

 

Apart from being part of renowned productions like The Night Manager and Lust Stories 2, Tillotama Shome is recognized for maintaining a low profile about her personal life. Few people are aware that she is married to Kunal Ross. Interestingly, Kunal’s mother, Nita Ross, is the sister of Jaya Bachchan, making Tillotama Shome Jaya Bachchan’s daughter-in-law.
