As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I’ve seen games rise and fall like the tides. Some, like No Man’s Sky and Cyberpunk 2077, have managed to bounce back from rocky launches, proving that there’s always hope for redemption. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was initially met with lukewarm reception, but with its third season launch, it seems they’re trying to make a comeback.
Initially panned upon release, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League garnered comparisons to games like No Man’s Sky and Cyberpunk 2077; fans held out hope that it might ultimately recover from its rocky debut.
The game has commenced its third season introducing a fresh playable character named Lawless. Although she may not be widely recognized by long-term DC followers, she boasts an intriguing link to one of the key members of the Suicide Squad, Deadshot.
Zoey Lawton a.k.a. Lawless
Zoey Lawton, also known as Deadshot’s daughter, is referred to as Lawless in the game. In the comics set on an alternate earth, she is known as Liveshot, but given that the game features playable villains, she has been reimagined as a contemporary character similar to Robin Hood – a fighter who targets the wealthy elite and redistributes their wealth to the less fortunate, hence her new name, Lawless.
In the initial trailer, the details about her abilities aren’t completely clear, but footage of gameplay featuring her has been released online. It seems she will navigate the map using some form of advanced alien technology, which enables fast movement. Similar to her father, she possesses gauntlets that shoot projectiles. Given comic book conventions, it’s highly probable that Lawless demonstrates the same deadly accuracy as her father.
Where are the Other Villains?
Despite Lawless holding significance as an original character, some fans have voiced their disapproval over her being chosen as the next Downloadable Content (DLC) character rather than a more renowned DC villain. Given that they incorporated Joker into the game’s roster of playable characters, the question arises as to why another well-known antagonist wasn’t selected instead.
It appears that Deadshot’s character development in relation to his daughter might be a narrative device, as she shares connections with Amanda Waller and ultimately becomes part of Task Force X by the end of the series.
As for other antagonists, it hinges on whether Rocksteady can regain the player community’s trust. Despite a rocky start, Star Wars Battlefront II persisted with the introduction of numerous maps and characters throughout several months. It’s possible that Suicide Squad has more playable characters up its sleeve; with fan-favorites like Black Manta, Deathstroke, and Sinestro still waiting to be unveiled.
In the game, Penguin is a pre-existing character. With the success of the Max series, it might be possible to revamp him into a playable team member, equipped with various weapon options.
Coming Back from the Dead
Despite the fact that Suicide Squad currently has a poor reputation, it’s worth noting that some games have successfully recovered from dismal launches – it could simply be a matter of timing. The anime adaptation, Cyberpunk Edgerunners, sparked renewed interest in the game almost overnight; perhaps Suicide Squad needs a similar crossover event to ignite enthusiasm and encourage more players to try the game?
The third season of “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League” has been released! You can now play this exciting game on your PC, Xbox Series X|S, or PS5.
