‘Meet the Parents 4’ Lands John Hamburg to Direct for Universal

It’s no lie that Universal is moving forward with a new Meet the Parents sequel.

John Hamburg, the scriptwriter of the upcoming movie “Me Time,” is currently discussing the possibility of also directing this project. If all goes well, original stars Robert De Niro, Ben Stiller, Teri Polo, and Blythe Danner will reprise their roles. Hamburg was previously involved in writing the screenplays for the 2000 original and the following two sequels. As of now, specifics about the storyline have yet to be disclosed.

The following individuals and companies are involved in producing this project: Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal (for Tribeca Productions), Jay Roach (Delirious Media), Ben Stiller and John Lesher (Red Hour Films), and Todd Hamburg (Particular Pictures). Matt Reilly, Universal’s executive vice president of production development, along with Jacqueline Garrell, the director of production development, are overseeing this project for the studio.

Under Roach’s direction, the movie Meet the Parents revolves around a nurse (Stiller) trying to impress his girlfriend’s domineering father (De Niro). The 2000 film grossed over $330 million globally, and the 2004 sequel, Meet the Fockers, which expanded the cast to include Dustin Hoffman and Barbra Streisand, was even more successful, earning a staggering $522 million worldwide.

Roach directed the initial two films, whereas Paul Weitz took over as director for the 2010 release titled “Little Fockers“.

In a 2022 conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Hamburg remained tight-lipped about the possibility of another Meet the Parents sequel.

Hamburg stated he wouldn’t delve into that topic, but expressed his affection for everyone concerned, confirming they remain connected, and that appears to be the extent of his comments regarding the matter.
