Every time a Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance meme pops up on Facebook, Reddit, or elsewhere, it prompts me to revisit the game. However, each time I try to find and play it again, I can’t – unfortunately, it’s no longer available on current-generation consoles.
2013 saw the launch of our game on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC platforms. This release coincided with a golden age of gaming, where players were captivated by popular titles such as Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us, BioShock Infinite from Irrational Games, and Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V.
In spite of tough rivalry, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance managed to establish itself as one of the top games released last year. Yet, it seems that Konami has neglected to upgrade one of its finest action titles.
After being released, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance managed to sell more than 2 million units, surprising many who initially criticized it as not meeting their expectations, saying “This isn’t the Metal Gear game we expected.” However, the game successfully carved out its own narrative continuity following Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, and its fast-paced hack-and-slash combat was undeniably thrilling.
The game received widespread acclaim when it was first released, with both critics and gamers commending its engaging combat system, captivating music, and storyline that remains relevant over a decade later, making it a topic of ongoing conversation. It’s no surprise that many players (including myself) are still clamoring for its return.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but express my enthusiasm for a potential remake of Metal Gear Solid. Konami has been graciously reintroducing this classic series to contemporary gamers through remakes and remasters. Yet, the question lingers: would PlatinumGames be open to revising their original combat system? If they are, I’m eagerly awaiting the outcome!
Given that Hideo Kojima, the creator of the Metal Gear series, has shifted away from his tactical espionage ventures for some time now, it appears a follow-up may be unlikely. Despite Konami still holding the intellectual property rights to Metal Gear, history (such as Metal Gear Survive) shows that ownership alone doesn’t ensure success in this genre.
In reality, the optimal method to reintroduce Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance might not involve a remake or a new installment. Instead, a remaster could be the most practical choice, and it aligns well with Konami’s recent strategy of resurrecting Metal Gear Solid series for contemporary players, as seen in the Metal Gear Solid collections.
A simpler adaptation of the game would suffice for its release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S; it doesn’t have to be a revolutionary update. For PC users, they can continue playing it through existing methods or buy it from Steam (if it’s accessible in their region).

As an ardent admirer, I’m suggesting that Konami and PlatinumGames consider a revamped version of Raiden’s thrilling journey. This refreshed take would be the perfect opportunity for devoted fans to retrace their steps in the game, while also introducing newcomers to its exhilarating, larger-than-life action sequences.
It’s likely that a newer group of gamers would enjoy Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance too, given the surge in popularity for character action games. Titles such as Black Myth: Wukong, Stellar Blade, and upcoming ones like Lost Soul Aside and Tides of Annihilation are contributing to this trend.
The rising demand for character action games, with titles like Black Myth: Wukong, Stellar Blade, and upcoming releases such as Lost Soul Aside and Tides of Annihilation, makes it probable that new gamers would also find Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance appealing.
At present, as Konami concentrates on Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater Delta, all we can do is be patient – and keep our fingers crossed that they’ll eventually reactivate Raiden’s cybernetic body from its slumber. I sure do miss the thrill of cutting watermelons and enemy limbs!
