MetalCore, an open-world shooting game in web3 that supports decentralized finance, is now the initial playable game on Immutable’s zkEVM platform. The game recently held its second closed beta testing phase from April 9 to April 22, with a limited number of players invited to participate according to an official statement.
According to Matt Candler, the CEO of Studio 369, the initial beta testing of MetalCore attracted a substantial amount of player engagement. The most active user accomplished over 800 missions and racked up more than 13,000 kills. Approximately 4 in 10 users participating in the second beta were new to the game.
In a future setting, MetalCore is a zero-cost game where factions engage in resource wars in space. Players get to pick their alliance, competing against other players or the challenging environment. Although web3 involvement is not mandatory, MetalCore’s native cryptocurrency (MCG) fuels in-game economies, enabling users to acquire MCG and NFTs. An additional currency named “Marks” can be earned through various contracts, quests, and guild activities.
MetalCore’s open beta, coming up later in 2024, can be accessed on PC through the Epic Games Store during this stage of development. This includes MetalCore alongside well-known games such as Fortnite. The mainnet for Immutable zkEVM, featuring support for smart contracts, was launched earlier this year in an initial phase. It should be noted that Immutable zkEVM differs from Immutable X, which does not include the capability to run smart contracts.
