Metrograph to Host “Memoriam Marathon” of David Lynch Films

On February 19, The Metrograph in New York will be hosting an entire day dedicated to celebrating the life and work of the late David Lynch, titled In Dreams. After his recent passing, this theater is commemorating him by reflecting on his artistic impact. They describe it as a day filled with “frights, joy, absurd humor, eerie sounds, and a collective appreciation for an icon of American art.

The “Memoriam Marathon” will feature a selection of the director’s key films, including “Mulholland Drive,” “Inland Empire,” “Blue Velvet,” and “Wild at Heart.” These movies will be introduced by cinematographer Frederick Elmes, who has worked closely with the director for a long time.

Elmes shared how it was an honor to contribute to David’s distinctive vision, a world that encompasses the familiar and enigmatic, the terrifying and ominous, the stunning and motivational. His creative journey with Lynch dates back to his debut feature film, “Eraserhead.” He will deeply miss him.

Over the span of half a century, David Lynch’s extraordinary career significantly influenced contemporary cinema with his unique blend of eerie and captivating works. The Metrograph recently commented that he was an “inspiringly unpretentious conduit for the deepest, most haunting corners of artistic imagination” and a “keen pioneer in cinematic craft,” stating that his impact on film art will continue to resonate with enthusiasts forever.
