MGM+ Renews ‘Billy the Kid’ For Third and Final Season

As a die-hard fan of historical dramas, I couldn’t be more thrilled! The news of Billy the Kid getting a third and final season has me riding high like Bonney himself! With Michael Hirst at the helm, we can expect nothing less than a masterful tale woven from the raw fabric of the American frontier.

The Kid is riding out for one last time.

MGM+ announced that it has renewed Michael Hirst’s Western series “Billy the Kid” for a concluding eight-episode third season.

The revival occurs approximately 3 and a half months following the conclusion of season two. The initial season of “Billy the Kid” premiered on MGM+, formerly known as Epix, in April, 2022.

The tagline for season three goes: “Although the Lincoln County War is concluded, both Billy the Kid and Sheriff Pat Garrett have outstanding matters to settle – retribution is imminent. Despite being on the run, Billy remains at large, while Garrett is determined to apprehend him, either dead or alive. With a bounty on his head, Billy has the chance to abandon New Mexico permanently and embark on a future with Dulcinea, his cherished sweetheart.

In “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes,” Tom Blyth portrays the main character Billy the Kid, also known as William H. Bonney. This series chronicles the life story of this notorious outlaw, from his humble beginnings in Ireland to his early years as a cowboy and gunman on the American frontier, through his involvement in the Lincoln County War and beyond. The ensemble cast includes Alex Roe as Pat Garrett, Daniel Webber as Jesse Evans, and Nuria Vega as Dulcinea del Tobosco.

Billy the Kid, as you know, was crafted by Hirst, a renowned writer-producer who is behind Showtime’s hit series, The Tudors, the historical saga of the Vikings for History, and its Netflix continuation, Vikings: Valhalla. Additionally, he penned Shekhar Kapur’s highly praised historic films, Elizabeth and Elizabeth: The Golden Age.
