Mia Goth and Corey Hawkins Join Nolan’s Epic ‘The Odyssey’

The eagerly awaited Christopher Nolan film adaptation of Homer’s classic tale, The Odyssey, has recently secured the services of two more talented actors: Mia Goth and Corey Hawkins. They join an already impressive ensemble that includes Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Jon Bernthal, Elliot Page, Bill Irwin, Himesh Patel, Samantha Morton, and Benny Safdie. Additionally, Nick Tarabay (from The Expense), Jimmy Gonzales (Mayans M.C.), and Maurice Compte (Once Upon a Time In Hollywood) have also been added to the cast.

Though specifics about which characters the cast members will play are being secretly guarded, The Hollywood Reporter hints that Goth might be taking on a character without dialogue, and they speculate she could embody a siren, deity, or statue. Throughout her distinguished acting career, Goth has proven her versatility by starring in movies such as “Nymphomaniac,” “Suspiria,” “Emma,” and Ti West’s celebrated “X” trilogy. Given her reputation as a contemporary scream queen, it would be intriguing to see her portray Circe – a sorceress and deity who employs magic to transform humans into animals, initially turning Odysseus’ men into swine.

Hawkins is a versatile actor, renowned for his performances on both stage and screen. His breakthrough came with the role of Dr. Dre in the 2015 movie ‘Straight Outta Compton’, followed by a two-season spell on ‘The Walking Dead’. Since then, he has been featured in films like ‘Kong: Skull Island’, ‘BlacKkKlansman’, and ‘The Tragedy of Macbeth’. On the stage, his acting skills have earned him Tony Award nominations for plays such as ‘Six Degrees of Separation’ and ‘Topdog/Underdog’. The upcoming film ‘The Odyssey’, directed by Nolan, will showcase where Hawkins’ talent lies in this new project.

Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ is Shrouded in Mystery

For Nolan’s upcoming movie, the cast selections have been kept under such a tight wrap that some actors agreed to take part without having much information about the film. In an interview with The Dish podcast in December, Holland revealed his participation in the project.

To put it straight, I’m not entirely clear on the details yet. I’m really thrilled about the project, but there hasn’t been much information shared so far. I recently had a meeting with [Nolan], and it was great! He gave me a vague idea of what it involves, and I believe he’ll reveal more when he’s ready to do so.

It’s not surprising at all that many actors are keen to work alongside Nolan, given his extensive body of work such as “Oppenheimer,” “The Dark Knight,” and “Interstellar.” In fact, they’re often eager to collaborate with him, even over the smallest aspects of a project.

Nolan’s interpretation of Homer’s “The Odyssey” is characterized by Universal Pictures as a “mythical action epic, filmed globally with cutting-edge Imax cinematography.” This extensive production, slated to commence this month on the island of Favignana (a place thought to have offered respite to Odysseus and his crew during their homeward voyage), carries an impressive budget, estimated to be over $250 million.

One version of rephrasing the given text could be: “The Odyssey”, penned by the ancient Greek poet Homer, is one of two epic masterpieces (with “The Iliad” being the other). This timeless tale recounts the adventure of King Odysseus of Ithaca, his long and difficult voyage back home following the Trojan War. During this journey, he faces various mythical beings such as cyclops, sirens, and Circe. Upon his eventual return, Odysseus discovers that his absence had led others to assume him dead and that unscrupulous suitors were courting his wife, Penelope.
