Michael B. Jordan Breaks Down “Technicality” of Playing Twins in ‘Sinners’

In the upcoming horror movie titled “Sinners“, Michael B. Jordan will be performing a dual role, portraying both Smoke and Stack, who are twin brothers, under the direction of Ryan Coogler.

At the New York premiere on Thursday, the star humorously remarked, “I was told there’s someone else wandering around here who looks like me, it’s unbelievable!” The movie, which takes place in the 1930s Southern U.S., follows the brothers as they try to escape their troubled past by returning home, but instead, they stumble upon a more formidable evil upon arrival.

As a gamer, I shared with The Hollywood Reporter on the red carpet that the toughest part about portraying twins was nailing the technical aspect of filming both characters. I did each scene multiple times – sometimes four, sometimes five – which made finding the right balance between switching back and forth quite tricky at first, but eventually, it became second nature. All in all, it was a blast!

The movie additionally explores themes related to the supernatural, featuring vampires as its characters. Jordan mentions “Vampire in Brooklyn” and “The Lost Boys” as two of his preferred movies within the category of vampire films.

He mentioned, “Those two were really awesome for me, and I adored both the actors and the plot. Eddie Murphy was fantastic in ‘Vampire in Brooklyn’; it was quite thrilling to see him portray a vampire.

In the movie, Hailee Steinfeld, Miles Caton, Jack O’Connell, Wunmi Mosaku, and Delroy Lindo appear together. Notably, Delroy Lindo discusses the musical aspects that are integrated into the plot of the story.

Lindo stated that it’s crucial to the storyline, the heritage of this culture, and the history of this nation. Wunmi Mosaku further explained that blues music permeates the entire film, creating a distinctive mix that is deeply connected to the community, love, music, inspiration, ancestry, hope – and even vampires.

O’Connell playfully stated that he was “living my most Beyoncé-like life” in the musical sequences, and hinted to viewers, “Whatever you may expect, reconsider your thoughts. However, I can assure you it promises to be an enjoyable experience, whether you watch it during the day or night.

Sinners hits theaters April 18.
