Michael B. Jordan’s career has escalated significantly since his days on “Hardball,” and it appears his resume continues to grow more intriguing. The former child actor, now director, is highly esteemed for his talent, whether in front of or behind the camera. As he prepares to unveil his upcoming supernatural horror film, “Sinners,” slated for release in 2025, the 38-year-old has shared and commended directors he’d like to collaborate with in the future, aiming to catch the eye of some prominent figures in the industry.
Despite limited news about the project, the Black Panther star recently spoke with GQ, discussing his upcoming films and potential collaborations with acclaimed directors. Christopher Nolan is among those he named, but it’s unclear if he was the director the Creed star was most eager to work with. In his own words:
Wow, it’d be a dream come true to collaborate with Christopher Nolan! The Safdie brothers are outstanding, too. Jeremy Saulnier is definitely someone I’d enjoy working alongside.
It’s no shock that the top three projects for the former star of “Just Mercy” are impressive given Jordan’s established career in Hollywood and his collaborations with heavyweights like Ryan Coogler. Yet, the infectious enthusiasm and fun vibe surrounding this A-list lineup could potentially make his aspirations a reality.
Following a playful mention of the trio, the actor from “Without Remorse” spoke candidly about his strategic approach in Hollywood. He emphasized that financial gain isn’t his primary motivation and finding roles he can decline is straightforward for him. However, he finds it challenging to maneuver through the industry as producers often have a different perspective than him. In his own words:
“I’ve been navigating Hollywood intentionally, not driven by profits, and I find it easy to turn down roles when they don’t align with my vision. But, the producers think differently from me.
I find it less challenging to decline projects. Here’s the thing: If my primary motivation was profit alone, my resume would showcase six additional projects. Producers might think, “You’d be perfect for this role because of your experience in that area.” But then they ask me to do something similar again? That can feel repetitive at times, don’t you agree?
Choosing roles based on personal interest rather than monetary value appears to be a wise decision, as it seems more satisfying over time and sustainable in an industry that’s always moving fast. Jordan’s approach to filmmaking, which prioritizes passion, is likely one of the reasons he has gained recognition among his peers and established himself behind the camera. In my opinion, this strategy could also increase the likelihood of working with his dream directors.

Moving forward, the following years appear to be busy ones for the former star of “The Wire.” Following his work on “Creed 3,” his next directorial project is generating excitement – a remake of the classic heist comedy romance, “The Thomas Crown Affair.” This seems like an excellent choice for him. Prior to the release of this remake of the 1968 original, we can look forward to the premiere of “Sinners” in April and “I Am Legend 2” towards the latter half of 2025 or early 2026. Given his impressive work, it’s likely that other directors he’s mentioned may consider him for their projects after his bold and engaging announcement.
Essentially, if Michael B. Jordan expresses his interest in collaborating with someone, whether that’s actors or directors, I think it’s just a question of when we’ll see this partnership come to life in the Hollywood scene. It makes for an even more exciting prospect if Jordan is enthusiastically endorsing this person in a humorous and public manner.
