Michael Bay’s ‘Transformers’ Films Leaving Netflix on December 31

As a long-time fan of the Transformers franchise, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia as I bid farewell to Michael Bay’s films on Netflix. The live-action series has been my go-to comfort food whenever I needed an action-packed escape from reality. From the jaw-dropping transformations in the original 2007 film, the absurdity of Revenge of the Fallen, the historical revisionism of Dark of the Moon, to the epic scale of Age of Extinction – each film has its unique charm that I’ve grown fond of over the years.

If you enjoy watching Michael Bay’s Transformers movie franchise on Netflix, take note – many of these movies will be removed from the platform by December 31st. For some time now, Netflix has been hosting the Transformers series (with the exception of The Last Knight) which makes this decision a bit disheartening for subscribers. Although the films in the series haven’t always received the best reviews, they still provide enjoyable action-packed entertainment, particularly for those who have a deep love for the Transformers universe beyond Michael Bay’s movies.

Among all the movies from the series, the 2007 film that kicked off the franchise might be the one we’ll miss the most significantly, not just because it was the first, but because many fans consider it the best. Starring a young Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox, Transformers (2007) paved the way for how robots in disguise would be brought to life on the big screen with stunning CGI and intricate transformations. However, a writers’ strike that disrupted pre-production of the sequel, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, may be the most memorable film in the series due to its over-the-top absurdity.

Leaving Netflix soon is “Transformers: Dark of the Moon,” a film that deepened the Transformers lore by portraying the Apollo moon landing as a covert operation to discover an abandoned Transformers spacecraft, containing a dormant Sentinel Prime. This movie has been re-evaluated as one of the better installments in the franchise and offers some of the most extreme robot action and devastation, which could challenge Zack Snyder’s style. The last film to depart Netflix will be “Transformers: Age of Extinction,” featuring a fresh human cast and the popular Dinobots across a nearly three-hour run. If you want to relive the Bayhem or are new to the Transformers series, now is an excellent opportunity to watch it before it disappears from Netflix.

There’s Still Hope for ‘Transformers’ on Netflix

Don’t let the absence of live-action Transformers films on Netflix bring you down, fellow enthusiasts. There’s still a wealth of Transformers content available, especially for those who enjoyed the recent release of Transformers One. You can still catch various animated stories that delve into the early conflicts between the Autobots and Decepticons. For instance, the Transformers War for Cybertron Trilogy stands out with its distinctive animation style, and there’s also Transformers Prime to explore.

If you’re still seeking live-action action and can’t wait, check out “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” on Paramount+. Directed by Steven Caple Jr. (known for “Creed II”), this film is the final live-action Transformers movie and offers a 90s setting, featuring the Autobots’ most significant threat yet. It also seems to set up an intriguing crossover in its post-credits scene. Unfortunately, whether or not the Michael Bay films will be available on another streaming platform after leaving Netflix has not been confirmed.

It’s a bit disheartening that the older Transformers movies which revitalized the franchise have been removed from the streaming service, but it’s also thrilling to anticipate the series’ future developments. Be it a follow-up to Transformers: The Movie or the live-action crossover hinted at in Rise of the Beasts’ finale, there’s much to be excited about. Fortunately, there are still numerous Transformers tales available for streaming on Netflix.
