As a seasoned cinephile who’s seen more than my fair share of blood-soaked crime dramas, I must say that the return of Dexter is nothing short of a thrilling comeback for both fans and the series itself. Having watched Michael C. Hall breathe life into the complex character of Dexter Morgan in 2006, it’s fascinating to see Patrick Gibson step into those bloody shoes with Original Sin.
The character Dexter is coming back to television screens on December 13 with the title “Original Sin,” and although Michael C. Hall won’t be physically present, his influence will still be strong. He’ll lend his voice to express the inner thoughts of his younger self, played by Patrick Gibson in this new series. While he may not appear on screen, Hall has shared some thoughts about the Irish actor taking over the role that made him famous back in 2006.
As a die-hard movie enthusiast, I’m just counting down the days till the debut of “Dexter: Original Sin” on Paramount+ with Showtime! Over the weekend, some of the cast were at CCXP in São Paulo, Brazil (as reported by Screen Rant), and it was great to hear that Michael C. Hall was there virtually for the show’s first table read. I must admit, I was a bit jittery about stepping into such legendary boots, but once we got through it all, I was pleasantly relieved to see Michael warmly receiving my portrayal of the future Bay Harbor Butcher.
He passed the baton to me… he said that he was liking everything he saw when we did the table read and that was a big relief.
15 years prior to the initial series, “Dexter: Original Sin” delves into Dexter Morgan’s life following college, where he joins Miami Metro and encounters the vibrant personalities we’ve grown fond of throughout the years. The series will also explore how he refined his techniques for eliminating some of the most despicable individuals in society, all while avoiding the keen gaze of his fellow officers.
Michael C. Hall Will Return in Dexter: Resurrection
Beyond the anticipation brought about by “Dexter: Original Sin,” fans are in for another treat as they feast on “Dexter: Resurrection” up until 2025. This sequel welcomes back Michael C. Hall to reprise his iconic role, a character that catapulted him to stardom. In the finale of “New Blood,” he was mortally wounded by his son Harrison, but it seems even a skilled vigilante can’t be permanently kept down.
The series was unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con in July this year, and since then, we only know that filming started in January and is set for a summer 2025 release. Apart from these details, there’s not much information available about the upcoming show except that, as per Hall, it will serve as a direct sequel to “New Blood.” In an interview with Variety a few months ago (as shown above), he expressed:
As a movie critic, I found myself yearning for further adventures. The richness of the Dexter saga continues to astound me, and with its recent collaboration with Paramount+, I couldn’t help but be drawn in by the tantalizing prospect that perhaps there were still untold stories waiting to be unearthed.
It’s being rumored that the Dexter universe is expanding, this time with a series centering around John Lithgow’s character, The Trinity Killer. Given that Morgan eventually killed him in Season 4, it seems likely that this new series would be another prequel. As for whether Lithgow will reprise his role remains uncertain, so we’ll have to wait and see. In the meantime, fans can look forward to Dexter: Original Sin, which premieres on Paramount+ with Showtime on Dec 13, and on Showtime’s linear cable channel on Dec 15.
