Michael Keaton, David Letterman, Paul Feig and More Mourn Teri Garr: “A Legend”

As I reflect upon the life of Teri Garr, it’s impossible not to be moved by her remarkable journey. A versatile actress who graced our screens for four decades, she was more than just a talented performer; she was an enchantress who could captivate audiences with her charm and grace.

As a devoted cinema enthusiast, I’m deeply moved to join the chorus of tributes pouring in for the late Teri Garr. Michael Keaton, Paul Feig, and David Letterman, fellow Hollywood luminaries, have all paid their respects following her passing at the age of 79 on Tuesday.

The actress who received an Oscar nomination was recognized for movies such as Tootsie and Young Frankenstein, plus numerous others, until her acting career came to a halt due to Multiple Sclerosis. In October 2002, she publicly disclosed her diagnosis during an interview on Larry King’s CNN show. Her last on-screen appearance was in 2011.

Garr passed away at his home in Los Angeles, with loved ones and companions nearby, as confirmed by his representative, Heidi Schaffer, to The Hollywood Reporter.

On Instagram, Michael Keaton, my co-star from ‘Mr. Mom,’ expressed that this day, which I had dreaded and expected, was upon us. Disregarding her exceptional acting and comedic talents, she was an outstanding individual. She was not only a joy to work with but also a delight to be around. If you have the chance, re-watch her comedic performances – oh, how fantastic she was!

As a dedicated admirer, I took to social media to echo Paul Feig’s poignant words about the demise of Teri Hatcher, who he directed in ‘Unaccompanied Minors’. He penned, “Oh my, this is heart-wrenching. Teri was an icon. So hilarious, so stunning, so generous. I cherished the opportunity to work with her back in 2006, and she embodied every quality I had envisioned. A true comedy idol. I adored her beyond words. This is a profound loss.

Actress Teri Garr, best known for her role in “Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” frequently graced David Letterman’s talk shows. On one such occasion, he shared a video of them together on Instagram, paying tribute to her with the words: “#RIP, one of our all-time favorite guests Teri Garr.
