As a seasoned journalist who has had the privilege of interviewing some of Hollywood’s most iconic personalities, I must say that my conversation with Justin Theroux was one for the books. His wit and humor were as sharp as ever, leaving me in stitches more than once during our chat.
Following the success of “Beetlejuice” at the box office during two consecutive weekends within the 2024 movie schedule, speculation about a potential third installment in the horror-comedy franchise arises. However, as stated by Tim Burton in our roundtable interview, making such a decision isn’t straightforward compared to other, more extensive series. Interestingly, Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O’Hara all have various projects they might revisit outside this specific universe. During our conversation with them, we inquired about the projects they would be excited to return to in the future.
All the choices were fantastic, but Mr. Keaton’s selection is particularly intriguing and worth delving into. Not only do I eagerly anticipate our potential further conversation about it, but also the exploration of the other alternatives we previously considered.
I Totally Agree With Michael Keaton’s Desire To Revive Another ‘90s Classic!
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but ponder about potential Michael Keaton roles that could bring back his legendary form. When I had the opportunity to chat with the Batman icon during the Beetlejuice 2 press day, I seized the moment to ask him which past projects would make the most intriguing comebacks. With my curiosity sparked, Keaton revealed some tantalizing prospects exclusively to TopMob.
Perhaps you could consider creating a new take on it since I found Multiplicity quite enjoyable, despite its challenges. In other words, it might be interesting to explore another version of this intriguing concept.
Among the top Michael Keaton films, a lesser-known gem that’s been gaining recognition lately is the 1996 comedy titled “Multiplicity.” In this film, Keaton plays not one but four different characters, all of whom were nominated for an Academy Award. Directed by Harold Ramis, some critics even view it as one of the finest comedies from the ’90s.
It’s unlikely anyone would strongly contest that claim, given how highly the man values that image himself. Given the actor’s long-standing desire to star in a Beetlejuice sequel and the quality of the movie we now have, this could be an encouraging sign to start the production process moving.
Just as Beetlejuice makes his comeback in the Deetz family’s world, resurrecting his supernatural chaos along the way, Multiplicity shares a similar potential with the recent Tim Burton-directed sequel. Without giving away the ending, let me say that the unconventional film’s handling of its clones at the end subtly hints at a possibility for more mayhem. There seems to be an opportunity waiting to be seized, and all that remains is the motivation to take it.
It’s equally exciting to imagine Michael Keaton re-entering the whirlwind universe of “Beetlejuice,” this time reviving characters like Doug, Lance, Rico, and Lenny. This could uncover questions we didn’t realize we had. Moreover, it would be delightful to watch the star from “Multiplicity” flex his comedic skills again, as he tackles the intriguing idea of managing multiple versions of himself in a fresh and entertaining way.
It’s quite likely that certain versions of the story have held up better over time compared to others, given that each character portrayed in the movie adaptation of Chris Miller’s book had unique idiosyncrasies. For one, I bet you’re curious about Lenny’s development – or even if he has developed at all – since those many years have gone by.
This thought experiment is merely a small part of a larger mystery, but it’s fascinating to explore further. As we delve deeper into the subject of character reprisals, the insights from Michael Keaton’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice co-stars are equally captivating.
Which Characters Would The Rest Of The Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Star Like To Revisit?
During the interviews for Beetlejuice 2, I raised the topic with the participating actors. In case you missed it, my earlier report discussed Winona Ryder’s sentimental longing for a Heathers sequel, which was likewise sparked by our talk about legacy-quels.
Sure thing! “Alright, let’s dive deeper into the decisions taken by the cast of ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.’ Get ready to uncover more about their choices!
- Jenna Ortega: Wednesday. She’s very cool, so it’s nice to kind of slip right back into that physicality again.
- Catherine O’Hara: Morgan Fairchild from SCTV. No, I don’t know. I’m trying to think of somebody I played years ago for a second.
- Justin Theroux: Oh my God, there’s so many of them that I want to go back to. As an actor, you know, it’s hard to say because you can never visualize the thing unless, for example, I don’t think there should be a Mulholland Drive 2, or a Drive 2 or, something like that. But I don’t know. I mean, I still find as a writer, you know, things that are in the vein of Tropic Thunder are really funny, that I’d like to sort of revisit. I wouldn’t wanna revisit that movie, or make a sequel of it, but there’s versions of it that I think could exist elsewhere that I think would be very funny.
In a nutshell, the movie “Beetlejuice” demonstrates that when everyone is ready and open, remarkable things can happen. However, as we’ve witnessed with Ms. Ryder and O’Hara, sometimes an opportunity has passed or it might be better to venture into something fresh. Nevertheless, it was Mr. Theroux’s response that piqued my interest most, prompting me to seek further discussion during our meeting.
It’s apparent that the man is still reminiscing about “Tropic Thunder,” and he’s not alone in this. In fact, I associated his musings with rumors surrounding Tom Cruise’s pursuit of a Les Grossman spin-off. When asked if he would be willing to contribute to the script to bring it to life, Justin Theroux shared with TopMob:
I’m ready and eager for the task at hand. If Tom in Hollywood ever reaches out, count me in!
Here it is! Many films in genres such as Tron and Scream are now seeing sequels, but maybe it’s time for comedies to join the trend too. We’ll need to keep an eye out, since Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is currently showing in theaters and marking the start of Halloween movie season. However, let’s cross our fingers that Michael Keaton’s idea becomes a reality.
If you fancy watching the movie “Multiplicity,” regardless if you’ve seen it before or not, you’re in for a treat! The hilarious clone comedy is available for streaming now, completely free (with some advertisements), on PlutoTV. So, your opportunity to enjoy this film just got even bigger!
