Mike Colter Returns as ‘Plane’ Gets Delayed ‘Ship’ Sequel

A sequel to one of Gerard Butler’s best action thrillers has reportedly hit a wave behind the scenes.
, which was released back in 2023, is getting a sequel in the form of Ship, which will see Butler’s co-star, Luke Cage’s
, return as former GCP French Foreign Legionnaire Louis Gaspare continues to make his escape aboard a boat following the events of the first movie.

Offering an update on Ship in a conversation with Collider at Indiana Comic Con, Colter revealed that, while Ship is still on course, the project has suffered several delays. Asked about the action movie follow-up, Colter revealed that, due to the Hollywood strikes, the actor has been left waiting to get the go-ahead from Butler and his production company.

“The status on that is that it was a thing that happened during the strike. They were supposed to be following through on it [then the strike happened]. There’s things going on. Obviously, Gerard and his company that produce that, they own the rights to it. So that’s a question for them moving it forward, because I got things going on. I’m sure he’s got things going on too, he’s shooting stuff. But I’d love to do the sequel, but it’s kind of in their ball park right now. It’s another thing to pray for.”

‘Ship’ Will Find Mike Colter’s Character Taking to the High Seas

Directed by Jean-François Richet and written by Charles Cumming and J. P. Davis, Plane is led by Gerard Butler as pilot Brodie Torrance and Luke Cage star Mike Colter as the mysterious convict Louis Gaspare. The action thriller follows Torrance as he saves his passengers from a lightning strike by making a risky landing on a war-torn island. When most of the passengers are taken hostage by dangerous rebels, the only person Torrance can count on for help is Louis Gaspare, an accused murderer who was being transported by the FBI. The movie was met with rave reviews from both critics and audiences alike, being awarded 79% on Rotten Tomatoes and 94% on the Popcornmeter.

A sequel to Plane was announced in 2023, with the follow-up swapping the sky for the sea as Mike Colter returns as misunderstood murderer Louis Gaspare in Ship. Picking up not long after the events of Plane, the sequel will follow the legionnaire after “disappearing into the jungles of Jolo Island.” It is not yet known whether Gerard Butler will return for more white-knuckle action, though the studio would surely be foolish not to get the popular action star back for at least a cameo. You can check out the synopsis for Ship below.

“Following a high-octane showdown with the local militia on Jolo’s shores, Gaspare manages to commandeer a fishing boat and escape the Philippines. But he’s not out of the woods yet: the media circus surrounding Flight 119 has elevated his public profile, making him the subject of an international manhunt. Hoping to stay under the radar and get far away from his last known location, Gaspare hops aboard a cargo ship in East Asia that’s bound for South Africa. But as he settles in for a long voyage, the stowaway discovers that the ocean vessel is transporting more than goods — it’s also being used as a ferry for a human trafficking ring.”
