Mike Myers features in a commercial endorsing the Liberal party of Canada, backing their new Prime Minister, Mark Carney, while subtly criticizing U.S. President Donald Trump.
In the advertisement, Myers and Carney can be seen conversing within an ice hockey arena, clad in red and white shirts emblazoned with “Canada.” A large Canadian flag adorns the wall behind them.
The ad shows Myers and Carney talking in a hockey rink, both wearing jerseys that say “Canada” on them and have red and white colors. On the back wall, there’s a big Canadian flag hanging up.
Or simply:
In the advertisement, Myers and Carney are seen discussing inside a hockey rink, donning Canada-themed jerseys and standing in front of a large Canadian flag on the wall behind them.
Hey there! I’m the one who shared that post on my old social media platform, which used to be known as Twitter. I just can’t help but wonder, what brings you to the ice rink? 🏒🎖️
“I just thought I’d come up and check on things,” Myers replies.
“You live in the States,” Carney says.
“Yeah, but I’ll always be Canadian,” Myers responds.
Carney continues to remark that Myers resides in the U.S., and subsequently tests his knowledge with a spontaneous quiz about Canadian culture, encompassing characters from the children’s TV show ‘Mr. Dressup’, the capital of Saskatchewan, and what actions he would take during a specific hockey play.
“What are the two seasons in Toronto?” Carney asks at the end of the quiz.
Myers responds with ‘Winter and construction,'” Carney says, implying that he’s Canadian.

Carney comments, “You’re talking about winter and construction,” to which Myers gives a nod to his Canadian roots.

Carney observes, “It seems you’re discussing winter and construction,” hinting at Myers being Canadian.
As the game unfolds, I find myself posing a query to my counterpart, “Mr. Prime Minister, is there always a Canada in this virtual world?” or simply, “Will Canada persist in this gaming universe?
Carney replies: “There will always be a Canada.”
In the heat of the game, Myers gives me a cue, “elbows up,” echoing a phrase that’s been rallying Canadians together. We’re standing firm against the proposed tariffs on our exports and the suggestion to become the 51st U.S. state, which is something I, as a Canadian gamer, am certainly not in favor of.
Towards the closing of the advertisement, Myers spins away from the camera to reveal his jersey, which bears the word “Never” and the number “51.
The term “elbows up” originates from a famous hockey maneuver by the legendary Canadian hockey player, Gordie Howe. Similarly, Myers repeated this phrase and gently touched his left elbow in a recent performance on Saturday Night Live.
As a fervent enthusiast, I’ve been closely following the political landscape of Canada. The Liberal party was on the brink of a significant electoral setback, a historical defeat, as per NPR reports, until former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stepped down in January. Then came the trade conflict instigated by Trump, further complicating matters for the Liberals.
However, the tide seems to have turned after the Liberal party elected Trudeau’s successor, Carney, who was sworn in on March 14th. Now, Carney and Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre are gearing up for a fierce battle in the general election, scheduled for April 28th. It promises to be an interesting contest!
