Mikey Madison Gets Pitched an ‘Anora Fedora’ Idea After ‘Anora Menorah’ Was Cut in ‘SNL’ Promo

Awards season may be over, but the Anora praise isn’t.

This week, Mikey Madison will be the host of Saturday Night Live, having recently won an Oscar for her role in Sean Baker’s film “Anora” a few weeks back. A sneak peek at the upcoming episode, released on Wednesday, features Sarah Sherman presenting Madison with a sketch that was previously scrapped, depicting her character Anora perched atop a Menorah while wearing lingerie, titled the “Anora Menorah.” The idea for this sketch was first shared by SNL cast member Sarah Sherman on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” back in January.

Upon finding the Anora Menorah in Sherman’s wardrobe, Sherman explains, “Ah, that’s the Anora Menorah. It was part of a skit we had planned but ended up being scrapped.” Curious, Madison queries, “Was it considered amusing by the audience?

The unbroadcasted skit didn’t appear to have anyone laughing, yet a worried Sherman remarked, “Oh yes, it was a hit alright! People were indeed chuckling. By the way, I had an idea I’d like to share with you – the Anora fedora.

Though the idea is a pass to Madison, adding, “Well, you guys will have other ideas, right?”

Twenty-six-year-old actress Madison clinched the Academy Award for best actress, honoring her portrayal of Brooklyn sex worker Ani (or Anora). In her acceptance speech, she acknowledged and paid tribute to the sex worker community. “I simply wish to acknowledge and honor the sex worker community,” she said. “As I move forward, I commit to being a supporter and ally.” She further expressed that interacting with these remarkable women has been a profound aspect of her award-winning journey.

Following her victory, Madison shared her future aspirations with The Hollywood Reporter. She expressed, “I aim to collaborate with intriguing individuals in the future.” She continued, “The key is to follow your feelings since it’s an emotional profession, and I believe I must truly feel that strong pull towards something – that undeniable urge, like, ‘I must do this.’ This film has allowed me to contemplate this deeply.

After portraying complex characters such as Anora and psychopathic killers in movies like Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood and Scream VI, Madison is set to explore comedy on Saturday night, featuring musical guest Morgan Wallen.
