Miley Cyrus Defends Chappell Roan Amid Transition to Fame, Call for Boundaries: “I Wish People Would Not Give Her a Hard Time”

As a long-time fan who grew up watching Miley Cyrus on Disney Channel, I’ve always admired her fearlessness and authenticity. Seeing her stand up for fellow artist Chappell Roan, who seems to be going through a tough time navigating the public eye, only strengthens my respect for her. It’s heartening to see artists supporting each other in this cutthroat industry, especially when it comes to addressing issues of privacy and personal boundaries.

Miley Cyrus is lending support to fellow music artist Chappell Roan.

In a feature for Harper’s Bazaar released on Wednesday, Cyrus disclosed that she contacted Roan following the rising star’s plea to fans via social media, asking them to show her respect.

As a follower, I can relate to Miley’s sentiment when she expressed, “I wish folks wouldn’t make things tough for her.” Entering the entertainment industry in today’s digital age isn’t a walk in the park with social media platforms like phones and Instagram. That’s not my past nor is it my present. In fact, I don’t even know my own Instagram password.

Roan expressed admiration for Cyrus, considering her a talented artist she’s long been a fan of. At the Disney Legends ceremony, there was an introductory video showcasing Cyrus that included Roan. Additionally, Roan has disclosed that Cyrus’ Best of Both Worlds Tour in 2007 was the first concert she ever attended.

Roan praises Miley Cyrus for her ability to consistently reinvent herself and maintain a strong work ethic. While this may appear sudden or insincere to some artists, Cyrus is open about her artistic and personal transformations, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to authenticity and self-expression in her music.

As a gamer, I’d put it like this: Even though I’ve made waves in the music scene, I’ve been clear about maintaining a balance between my public image and personal life. In August, I used Instagram to express my wish for people to respect my boundaries, stop intruding on my space and my loved ones’, and cease making assumptions about me without knowing the facts.

Roan has been working tirelessly on their project for the past decade, and now they find themselves at a point where boundaries must be established. They aim to continue being an artist for a long time. Unfortunately, Roan has experienced too many unwanted physical and social encounters that they feel compelled to address. It’s essential to clarify that women do not owe anyone anything. Roan chose this career path out of love for music and art and nurturing their inner child. They make it clear that they will not tolerate any form of harassment because they have chosen this path, and they do not deserve it under any circumstances.

She went on to say, “Whenever I’m on stage, during performances, in drag, attending work events, or doing press, I’m working. In any other situations, I’m not in work mode; I’ve clocked out. I don’t concur with the idea that I should reciprocate energy, time, or attention to people I don’t know, don’t trust, or find uncomfortable – simply because they’re expressing admiration. Women should not be obligated to explain why they don’t want physical contact or conversation.

Additionally, she pointed out that she meant the deceptive actions often labeled as “devoted fan” conduct, which have come to be accepted due to how women with prominence have historically been treated.

In September, Roan decided to postpone her scheduled appearances at the All Things Go festival in Washington, D.C., and New York, citing that things had become too much for her to handle.

Currently, I’m dealing with numerous priorities and I must take some time to focus on my well-being. I strive to deliver top-notch performances, and this requires me to be at my best. Thank you for your understanding; I will return soon,” she expressed earlier.

At that point, the declaration came after Roan faced criticism online following her statement that she doesn’t feel compelled to support Kamala Harris or Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election because “there are issues on both sides.” Later, she made clear her stance on endorsing and pointed out that while she was casting her vote for Harris, she believes that the Democratic party has let down people like us.

Roan has since said she was working to find a balance between her health and career.
