As a long-time fan of sci-fi and action movies, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming Netflix release, “The Electric State,” directed by the Russo brothers! Having grown up watching their masterpieces like “Avengers: Endgame” and “The Gray Man,” I’ve come to appreciate their unique storytelling ability that seamlessly blends action with heart-wrenching emotions.
Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt embark on a perilous journey as depicted in the latest preview for Netflix’s “The Electric State”.
The science fiction film by directors Anthony Russo and Joe Russo debuts on the streaming platform on March 14, 2025. Joining the cast are Ke Huy Quan, Jason Alexander, Woody Norman, Giancarlo Esposito, Stanley Tucci, with Woody Harrelson, Anthony Mackie, Brian Cox, Jenny Slate, Hank Azaria, Colman Domingo and Alan Tudyk lending their voices.
“The Electric State” follows a teenage girl (Brown) and her robot companion as they embark on a journey with a drifter (Pratt), all in search of the girl’s lost younger brother during the aftermath of a conflict between humans and machines in the 1990s.
Currently, we share a universal experience, as stated by Brown in the earlier teaser trailer’s voiceover. This shared experience is that we have all suffered losses following the rebellion. Robots have been deprived of their liberty, humans have experienced disconnection from one another, and I, Brown, thought I had lost everyone dear to me.
The Russo brothers directed the movie, with a screenplay written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely that was inspired by Simon Stalenhag’s 2018 novel of the same title. Joe Russo, Anthony Russo, Mike Larocca, Angela Russo-Otstot, Chris Castaldi, and Patrick Newall are the film’s producers.
At New York Comic Con in October, Pratt shared how deeply he felt about the script during a discussion related to the movie.
The actor mentioned that the project wasn’t usually the type for a blockbuster-style film, but it was incredibly unique and represented a significant risk. He felt this might be his last chance to star in a major production like this, so he seized the opportunity. The story was just so powerful; it touched him deeply, making him cry while reading it.
The Russos have made a name for themselves by directing movies like Disney’s “Avengers: Endgame” and Netflix’s “The Gray Man”. They are planning to lead the next two films in the Marvel’s “Avengers” series, with the first one being “Avengers: Doomsday”, set to release in 2026.
