Released in April 2024, this movie swept across Asia like a storm, raking in over $55 million at international box offices. It was more than just a film; it was an experience that captivated audiences. Interestingly, it also marked the first time a Thai film made it to the Academy Awards shortlist.

A heartwarming blend of comedy and drama, “How to Make Millions Before Grandma Passes” narrates the story of a young man who, in an attempt to claim his grandmother’s inheritance after learning she is terminally ill, moves in with her. However, instead of just a financial quest, he embarks on a profound emotional journey that transforms his perspective on family and affection.

In his statement, Miramax CEO Jonathan Glickman described the film “How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies” as a unique treasure that skillfully balances humor, unexpected emotion, and impactful moments. He expressed hope that their adaptation would draw multiple generations of families to the movie theater, just like the original did.

The rights agreement for this project, which drew attention from numerous studios, was negotiated by Nelson Mok from Mokster Films acting on behalf of GDH. Yvette Zhuang, who serves as Miramax’s senior vice president for international production and distribution, played a crucial part in bringing the project to the studio. Despite relinquishing her executive position later this month, she will continue her involvement as a producer for the project.

In reference to the film’s widespread impact, director Boonnitipat expressed: “Its global success leaves me astonished, but it fills my heart with joy to realize that people from various parts of the world share a common value – or perhaps a fundamental essence – that transcends national and cultural boundaries.

Vanridee Pongsittisak, the producer, commented: “The core of a family is universal, yet every home has its unique narrative. I’m thrilled to witness How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies being revived; this time, set in an American household.

At present, Miramax is actively producing season two of “The Gentlemen” for Netflix, and they’ve also broadened their presence on the platform with the political thriller “Zero Day,” featuring Robert De Niro. In terms of movies, they are working on a follow-up to “The Beekeeper,” which earned over $160 million globally, as well as “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy,” which brought in approximately $130 million.
