Mirzapur 3’s Rasika Dugal recalls getting typecast for crying scenes: ‘There was a time I could read the script backward…’

As a dedicated follower of Rasika Dugal‘s career, I can confidently say that her journey in the world of entertainment is nothing short of inspiring. Having started out with being typecast as a crier on-screen, she has now broken free from those shackles and is thriving in the diverse roles she is being offered.

Actress Rasika Dugal, who has recently been seen in Kay Kay Menon’s web series titled Shekhar Home, has had experience working in both Bollywood and OTT productions. Notably, Rasika gained significant recognition for her portrayal of Beena Tripathi in the crime thriller series, Mirzapur. Previously, she felt pigeonholed due to being frequently cast as a weeping character on screen, but now, she is content with the variety of roles that are coming her way.

In an exclusive conversation with Indian Express, I, Rasika Dugal, reminisced about instances where I found myself repeatedly cast as a character who wept on screen. The roles I was offered often had at least two emotional breakdowns scripted for me.

The actress from Mirzapur once mentioned that she used to be able to read scripts backward and predict with certainty that within the final ten pages, there would be at least two emotional scenes where she would cry.

As an ardent admirer, I’ve noticed a tantalizing shift in my acting journey – a hint of the captivating femme fatale role has crept into my career!

The Manto actress credited her success to the OTT which boomed in recent times. She expressed that her films including the smaller ones didn’t get the releases that they deserved.

Rasika referenced the case of Mirzapur to support her claim that she now has a broader platform to display her creations, enabling her to reach a larger audience.

Previously, Rasika Dugal shared some behind-the-scenes secrets in an exclusive GRWM (Get Ready With Me) video with TopMob. She mentioned that she always had a portable hand fan handy while filming scenes for Mirzapur on set.

Rasika brought up a delightful memory shared with her Mirzapur co-star, Pankaj Tripathi, by mentioning they have a photo of the two of them. Rasika humorously noted that during the photo shoot, she lent him a fan and referred to this moment as her special time with Pankaj, or “my fan moment” with him.

Beyond her role in Mirzapur, Rasika Dugal has also been featured in various projects. Notably, she starred as the on-screen spouse of Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the 2018 biographical film Manto. In addition to this, she has appeared in TV series like Delhi Crime, Made in Heaven, A Suitable Boy, OK Computer, and several others.

As a longtime fan of Indian cinema, I was thrilled to see Shekhar Home, the latest web series by a talented actress I admire, premiere on Jio Cinema this August. This wasn’t my first encounter with her exceptional acting skills; she also stole the show in the short film Chutney alongside Tisca Chopra and Adil Hussain. Her versatility as an artist is truly inspiring, and I eagerly await her future projects. As a woman who has spent countless hours consuming Indian entertainment, I can confidently say that she has left a lasting impression on me and many others with her captivating performances.
