As a lifestyle expert, I find Vijay Varma’s journey to be incredibly inspiring. His resilience and determination are evident, not just in his acting skills, but also in his ability to bounce back from adversity. The story of him having only Rs 18 in his bank account is a stark reminder that even the most promising careers can hit rock bottom at times.
Actor Vijay Varma, who gained prominence alongside Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu in Pink (2016), is currently one of the most adaptable actors in today’s film industry. Most recognized for his roles in Mirzapur, Pink, and Gully Boy, Vijay Varma is now preparing for his upcoming series, IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack.
In a recent interview with Shubhankar Mishra on YouTube, Vijay Varma confirmed that the story about him having only Rs 18 in his bank account was accurate, as it had happened in his own life experiences.
In a reminiscent moment, Lust Stories 2 actor shared anecdotes from what he termed as his toughest period. He confessed that during this phase, he had to choose between spending Rs 12 on panipuri or Rs 13 on idli, with only Rs 18 left in his bank account. The host asked him about the circumstances leading to such financial struggles, given his family’s history of comfortable income.
In simpler terms, Vijay explained that he no longer requested financial help from his family because he had fallen out of regular communication with his father.
“Aur mujhe kisi samjhdaar aadmi ne bola ki jab tak tera rent aur basic kharcha aata rahega, tu hilega nahin. Tere andar jo fire hai usko thoda jalane de…(An intelligent person had told me that till the time you are getting money for rent and basic expenses, you won’t move. You have a fire inside, let it burn),” he added. Vijay remembered his condition of feeling like he had lost everything.
In the upcoming Netflix series titled “IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack,” Vijay Varma takes on the character of Captain Devi Sharan, who was at the helm during the 1999 aircraft hijack. Joining him in this star-studded cast are Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapur, and Dia Mirza. This gripping drama, directed by Anubhav Sinha, recounts the real-life events surrounding the hijacking of Indian Airlines Flight 814, set to air on Netflix on August 29 this year.
