Modern Family's Eric Stonestreet Just Landed A Major TV Follow-up, But It Won't Be On Network TV This Time

As a long-time fan who has followed Eric Stonestreet‘s hilarious journey since his days as Cameron Tucker on Modern Family, I couldn’t be more thrilled about his latest venture into the world of Amazon Prime Video! It’s heartening to see an actor I admire for his impeccable comic timing and emotional depth step up to lead a show of his own.

Since the popular sitcom “Modern Family” ended its 11-season run on ABC in 2020, the cast members have been pursuing various projects. One of them, Emmy-winning actor Eric Stonestreet who played Cameron Tucker, has been particularly busy. Although he’s had some significant roles post-“Modern Family,” his latest project seems to be his most substantial yet. Importantly, this new television opportunity won’t air on a network.

Eric Stonestreet is moving his acting skills to Amazon Prime Video’s platform, where he will both star in and produce a new series titled “Home Team“. As per Deadline, several creatives are working on this project, including Peyton Manning. It’s said that the NFL great will act as an executive producer under his Omaha Productions label. After the announcement, Stonestreet expressed his excitement on social media, sharing a screenshot of the headline from the news outlet and jokingly referring to Manning in his Instagram caption.

I’m thrilled to collaborate with this fantastic group, with myself as the quarterback, of course! As per the terms of our agreement, my head happens to be larger than Peyton’s in this photograph.

The television show known as “Home Team,” helmed by Jason Belville, is said to be influenced by the personal relationships between Eric Stonestreet and Peyton Manning with their own fathers. This half-hour comedy, filmed using a single camera, will feature Stonestreet portraying Scott Hansen, a man who decides to make adjustments in his life after placing his father in a retirement home. While the plot is still sketchy, it hints at an optimistic series and, with the limited information provided, I can envision the type of humor this program might elicit.>

More on Modern Family

As a die-hard Modern Family fan, I can’t hide my excitement when I share that Ty Burrell was persuaded by none other than Jesse Tyler Ferguson to join the Modern Family Awards Reunion. The reason Jesse used to convince Ty is simply hilarious: he claimed he needed someone to help him carry his Emmys!

As a devoted fan, I’ve been thrilled to see Ty Burrell, since wrapping up his iconic role on “Modern Family,” grace our screens with appearances on shows like “American Auto” and “Madagascar: A Little Wild.” He even hosted the brief-lived Fox game show “Domino Masters” in 2022. However, his most notable role since the end of the beloved ABC sitcom might just be his time as a cast member on “The Santa Clauses,” specifically during Season 2 of the legacy sequel series (available on Disney+). In this role, he brought Mad Santa, Magnus Antas, to life, creating tension with Tim Allen’s Santa character. As the star of “The Secret Life of Pets,” Burrell truly relished the opportunity to sink his teeth into some dramatic scenes as Mad Santa.

There remains some uncertainty about what lies ahead for the show Home Team. One of the main unanswered questions at this stage is who else might join Eric Stonestreet in the cast. It’s likely that the casting team will look for actors who can match Stonestreet’s comedic flair and rhythm. It’s also possible, though not guaranteed, that some former co-stars from Modern Family could make a guest appearance. Given the close bond between the cast members, this isn’t entirely out of the question.

Currently, there’s no confirmed date for the airing of the upcoming series, and it appears it won’t be part of the 2024 TV lineup. However, with Eric Stonestreet returning to television to headline his own show, I can’t help but get excited! Don’t forget to subscribe to Prime Video so you can stream the series once it’s available on the platform.
